Athletes & Storylines to Watch
Cross-Country Skiing Women's 50km Mass Start Classic
Frida Karlsson (SWE) will target history as she lines up for the first-ever Olympic Women’s 50km Mass Start Classic, aiming to claim her third gold of Milano Cortina 2026. With men and women racing the same Olympic distance for the first time, Karlsson arrives as the standout favourite after dominant distance performances this season.
Sweden teammate Ebba Andersson, a five-time Olympic medallist chasing gold in Italy, believes she can challenge despite Karlsson’s formidable form. Sprint star Jonna Sundling could also factor, while Norway’s relay-winning quartet, USA’s Jessie Diggins and Finland’s Kerttu Niskanen add further depth to a historic finale for women’s Cross-Country skiing.
Freestyle Skiing Women's Freeski Halfpipe
The Freestyle Skiing Women’s Halfpipe Final has been rescheduled to Sunday, 22 February, from 10:40 to 12:15 CET. The competition was postponed due to adverse weather conditions, which prevented the course from being prepared to the standard required to ensure a safe and fair contest for the athletes.
The spotlight will be on Eileen Gu (CHN), who is chasing a third medal of the Games. The defending champion, and the only athlete in the 21-woman field competing across multiple freestyle disciplines, qualified fifth after winning silver in both Slopestyle and Big Air. Reigning world champion and Crystal Globe winner Zoe Atkin (GBR) led qualification ahead of China’s Li Fanghui, Canada’s Cassie Sharpe and Australia’s Indra Brown, setting up a stacked and high-stakes finale to close out freestyle competition.
