FIS Strategic Plan

FIS unveiled the first edition of its five-year rolling Strategic Plan in 2023. The 37-page document established the strategic goals designed to enable FIS to deliver long-term value for all stakeholders across its disciplines.

As the first five-year strategy developed under the current FIS leadership, the Strategic Plan defined the priority and focus areas intended to accelerate the organization’s development and strengthen the future of snow sports. From the outset, it set out an ambitious and forward-looking agenda, identifying significant opportunities to be harnessed for the benefit of FIS and its global stakeholder community.

True to its nature as a rolling strategy, the Plan has been subject to continuous assessment and refinement through an annual evaluation and strategy cycle. Following its initial publication, reviewed and updated editions were released in 2024 and 2025, each reflecting progress achieved, emerging challenges, and the evolving needs of the snow sports ecosystem. In 2026, the Strategic Plan is once again under review, reinforcing FIS’s commitment to adaptability, accountability, and long-term relevance.

The creation of the original Strategic Plan was the result of an extensive and inclusive process spanning nearly two years. The work began in late 2021 with the establishment of 15 Working Groups, involving 60 National Ski Associations (NSAs) and 105 individual contributors, tasked with providing insight across a wide range of strategic topics. Their findings were reported in Spring 2022, leading to the formation of the Strategic Planning Committee shortly thereafter.

The Committee then carried out an in-depth consultation programme with NSAs through a series of online and in-person Feedback Forums, which concluded at the end of February 2023. This collaborative approach ensured that the first edition of the Strategic Plan was firmly grounded in stakeholder input.

Designed as a high-level, macro framework, the Strategic Plan provides a clear vision and strategic direction for the future of FIS. Through its ongoing review and update cycle, it continues to serve as a living document—guiding decision-making, tracking progress, and ensuring that FIS remains responsive to a dynamic sporting and organizational landscape.

We created this Strategic Plan for the benefit of generations to come. We want future generations to inherit a strong, healthy sport that we can all be proud of. The Strategic Plan is full of opportunities. Together, let us make them happen.Johan Eliasch, FIS President

FIS Impact Programme

As part of its long-term Strategic Plan, FIS has embedded sustainability as a core priority through the FIS Impact Programme. The programme supports the delivery of key objectives across environmental, social, and governance areas.

Taking a 360° approach, the Impact Programme outlines a series of short-, mid-, and long-term goals for the 2024–2026 cycle, designed to engage stakeholders across snow sports and drive meaningful change in sustainability. While a significant focus is placed on reducing environmental impact, the programme also addresses wider social and governance considerations, reflecting the interconnected nature of sustainability.

The initiatives outlined in the FIS Impact Programme translate strategic ambition into practical, measurable actions, supporting FIS in protecting the natural environments and communities on which winter sports depend. The aim is to ensure that future generations can continue to enjoy snow sports in their natural setting.

FIS Impact Report

The FIS Impact Report 2024 marks the progress made toward the goals set for the year under the FIS Impact Programme. It shows where we are today, highlighting both achievements and areas where further work is needed, and provides a transparent view of our sustainability journey.

The Impact Report follows the programme’s three core pillars: environmental, social, and governance. Key actions taken under each pillar are highlighted. On the environmental side, this includes the launch of a CO₂ calculator, targeted training for stakeholders, and partnerships with organizations such as the World Meteorological Organization and the European Space Agency to address climate and biodiversity challenges.

Social initiatives include the creation of the FIS Refugee Team and the recognition of Atefeh Ahmadi as its first athlete.

In governance, the introduction of the FIS Code of Ethics reinforces a commitment to integrity, fairness, and solidarity.

Overall, the report provides a clear snapshot of progress, showing how the FIS Impact Programme is moving from planning into action across all areas.
