Athletes' Commission

The FIS Athletes’ Commission is composed of 16 members elected for a four-year term by the athletes competing at the FIS World Championships. It ensures balanced representation across regions, gender and disciplines. The current Athletes’ Commission serves the 2023–2027 term.

The members of the Athletes’ Commission play a key role within FIS governance. They hold full voting rights in their respective discipline committees, and four members also sit on the FIS Council with full voting rights. The current Athlete Representatives on the FIS Council are Verena Stuffer (ITA – Alpine), Alex Fiva (SUI – Ski Cross), Adam Hall (NZL – Para Snow Sports) and Danielle Aravich (USA – Para Snow Sports).

Vision & Mission

The mission of the FIS Athletes’ Commission is to represent the voice and interests of athletes by actively contributing to decision-making processes within the FIS organization, while empowering athletes through clear and effective communication.

The Commission’s vision is to drive innovation and support the continued growth of snow sports, while advocating for human rights, safety and health, and athlete career development. It also seeks to engage athlete champions and role models in promoting initiatives that contribute to the long-term development and sustainability of the sport.

Established in 1999, the FIS Athletes’ Commission serves as a key link between active athletes and FIS advisory and decision-making bodies.

The Commission works in close liaison with the IOC Athletes’ Commission, as well as with National Ski Associations and their respective athlete representatives.

Focus Areas

Members of the FIS Athletes’ Commission are actively involved in a wide range of activities, including:

Education and Career Transition

  • Provide information to support athletes in pursuing a dual career that combines sport and education.

  • Inform athletes about services related to career preparation and career management during and after their competitive careers.

Promoting Clean Sport

  • Raise awareness of the importance of clean sport among athletes at all levels.

  • Support the initiatives of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

  • Work with FIS and WADA to improve anti-doping procedures and provide athlete feedback.

The Environment

  • Raise awareness of environmental issues and act as role models to inspire others.

  • Engage athletes in programs aimed at protecting and supporting the environment.

Development Programs

  • Support FIS Development Programs and serve as role models.

  • Promote snow sports as healthy recreational activities for children and youth during the winter season.

Discipline Athlete Network

  • Develop effective communication networks within each discipline.

  • Facilitate two-way communication between FIS and athletes.

World Cup Organizer Feedback

  • Collect athlete feedback on FIS World Cup events.

  • Provide relevant evaluations and insights to FIS and event organizers.

Athlete Health and Safety

  • Work closely with the FIS Athlete Health Unit.

  • Share athlete feedback and raise concerns related to athlete health and safety.

Getting Involved

If you are a FIS athlete, there are several ways to get involved in the work of the Athletes’ Commission. Eligible athletes may stand as candidates in elections held during the respective FIS World Championships, or vote to elect athlete representatives of their choice.

The most recent FIS Athletes’ Commission elections for the 2023–2027 term took place during the FIS World Championships in 2023. Information regarding the next Athletes’ Commission elections will be communicated to National Ski Associations in the fall of 2026.
