The turn of the new year brought yet more opportunities for FIS to continue developing athletes and coaches on the snow. After ending 2024 with a successful run of eight camps, experts across the organization teamed up to deliver three more in January.

To start 2025, FIS held the first camp of the year in St. Moritz, between 5 and 10 January: a series of Grand Slalom sessions dedicated to snowboard hopefuls and coaches alike, with theory on offer as well as practical lessons.

Next came the opportunity for those who specialize in Aerials; it was particularly exciting to have international experts on board to deliver this camp, with the help of the Kazakhstan Ski Association.

Twenty athletes and five coaches from five National Ski Associations (NSAs) made up the number of attendees who joined the team in Almaty at the Shymbulak Ski Resort. Not only did they get to work with FIS coaches, but they also got to learn from Dmitriy Kavunov, who is lauded as the godfather of this discipline by many.

“We got to meet new people and we made a lot of new friends, which is awesome,” a Canadian participant told FIS.

That sentiment was echoed by Swiss coach Peter Medulics, who continued: “I hope that the athletes got to know other athletes from other nations and took advantage of [the chance to] have good discussions.

“I hope they observe how more experienced athletes were jumping and took some good points [home] with them.”

From th12 to 17 January, junior athletes and coaches came together for a week of training, learning, and culture exchange in Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping. Held in Predazzo, Italy, a total of 30 participants had the perfect chance to connect with peers while nurturing their talents.

“This was exactly the right combination for a great camp – an amazing venue and knowledgeable coaches,” said Team Latvia.

“It was a great opportunity to learn about other countries and their cultures through our meetings,” added an athlete.

We have made new friends from all over the world and trained in one of the most beautiful countries – it was an incredible occasion that will always hold a special place in our memories.Team Latvia
