FIS and the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative unite to #KeepWinterAlive: athletes inspire action
Jan 09, 2026·Inside FIS
Taking action this January, FIS is teaming up with the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative (SCI) to launch the #KeepWinterAlive campaign. This bold movement unites athletes and fans to lower their carbon footprint and protect the future of snow sports.
Led by Arnold Schwarzenegger, SCI’s mission is to drive global climate action by supporting projects, raising awareness, and connecting people to bring ideas to life. Through this collaboration, FIS is promoting this mission within the winter sports community.
The #KeepWinterAlive campaign will run throughout January, building momentum leading up to one of the staples of the World Cup calendar – and a favorite destination of ski fan Arnold Schwarzenegger himself: the Hahnenkamm races in Kitzbühel, Austria.
Every week this month, elite athletes from different snow sports disciplines will reveal the everyday habits they use to lower their carbon footprint. Each athlete will answer two main questions:
What is your environmentally friendly HABIT to keep winter alive?
What is one simple ACTION to help keep winter alive that you challenge your fans to replicate this week?
In a separate video, viewers everywhere are invited to join the conversation, sharing their thoughts alongside athletes in response to the question: “What does the winter YOU want to keep alive look like?”
By creating their own content, athletes bring fans into their world, reinforcing credibility through real voices and real choices, to create a real impact. Just look at our first contribution, from one of the strongest sustainability advocates in the snow sports tour: Aerials star Marion Thénault (CAN):
Through this collaboration between FIS and SCI, the #KeepWinterAlive campaign showcases the collective power of the winter sports community, with athletes and fans working together to protect the winter landscapes that make snow sports possible.
Join the movement this January: take action, share your commitment through the “Add Yours” function of FIS’ and SCI’s Instagram stories, and encourage others to do the same.
