The FIS Council met this Wednesday and focused on preparations for the FIS Congress, scheduled for Belgrade, Serbia, on 11 June.
Besides having reviewed several proposals that are set to be on the Congress agenda ─ including a preliminary version of the budget for the financial year 2026-27 ─ the Council received updates related to the upcoming elections for the office of the President and for 18 seats on the FIS Council.
During the meeting, the FIS administration presented the total number of candidatures received by the deadline of 13 April: 28.
All candidatures have now been submitted to the Nominations and Remuneration Committee for review, and on 22 April the candidature documents of all candidates will be published on the FIS website.
Subsequently, on 20 May ─ 21 days prior to the election ─ the list of eligible candidates will be distributed to all National Ski Associations, as well as published on the FIS website.
The details regarding the elections can be found on article 10 of the FIS Statutes.
FIS membership
The FIS Council agreed on the principle of introducing a new membership category ─ “Affiliate Organization” ─ with the objective of giving FIS an opportunity to formally engage with groups and organizations that operate in ski and snowboard, as well as strategic partners.
The matter will be submitted to the FIS Congress for approval, together with the requests from Guinea-Bissau and Belize to change their status from Associate Member to Full Member, as well as that of Ski and Snowboard India to be reestablished as a Full Member.
- Education as an integral part of the FIS system
In another step to cement the fundamental role of education and knowledge-building within the FIS system, the FIS Council approved an amendment to the International Ski and Snowboard Competition Rules (ICR) per which all technical officials ─ i.e. chiefs of competition, equipment controllers, homologation inspectors, judges, Para classifiers, and technical delegates ─ must follow the education pathway outlined in the FIS Technical Official Education Guidelines.
The next FIS Council is scheduled for 5 May in Portoroz, Slovenia, as part of the FIS Spring Meetings.
