The FIS Impact Report 2025 documents FIS's sustainability journey, highlighting the actions, partnerships, and innovation behind key achievements. It demonstrates what is possible when ambition is supported by action.

“There is a phrase I keep coming back to: progress is only meaningful if you can measure it. That is the principle behind this report, and it is the principle that has shaped how FIS has approached sustainability ever since we set out a real framework for it.”Johan Eliasch, FIS President

As winter sports face growing environmental and social challenges, FIS remains committed to developing and implementing sustainable solutions. To learn more about FIS's progress, explore the full report and join FIS in shaping a more sustainable future for snow sports and the mountain environments on which they depend.

Major Projects: The Highlights of 2025

The FIS Impact Report 2025 is built around three strategic pillars: Eco-Responsible Choices, Responsible Choices, and Responsible Governance. Under each pillar, FIS is delivering initiatives that address key priorities, including reducing emissions, protecting biodiversity, advancing athlete well-being, promoting inclusion, supporting education, and strengthening governance across winter sports. The following highlights provide a snapshot of some of the year's standout achievements.

Improving Climate Action with Better Data and Insights

A significant milestone in the 2025 report is FIS's enhanced methodology for calculating organizational emissions. In collaboration with Deloitte, FIS strengthened the accuracy, consistency, and credibility of its carbon footprint reporting, creating a more robust foundation for climate action.

Central to this progress is the FIS CO₂ Calculator, a tool that empowers FIS, Local Organizing Committees (LOCs), National Ski Associations (NSAs), and the wider snow sports community to measure, monitor, and reduce emissions across events and operations. The calculator's impact was recognized on the global stage when it received the 2025 Sport Positive Award for Inspired Innovation.

Protecting and Restoring Natural Environments

Wildlife protection also emerged as a priority area in 2025. Through initiatives such as the FIS Nature and Biodiversity Protection and Restoration Award, Cool Earth, the Erasmus+ SLOPE project, and WinterWildTraces, FIS is helping to restore and safeguard the natural world. In addition, these efforts underscore the important relationship between winter sports and the natural environments on which they depend, while also fostering greater engagement in nature conservation across the snow sports community.

Providing the Knowledge and Tools for Sustainable Action

Building on this commitment to education and engagement, FIS expanded its sustainability learning initiatives in 2025. Through training, athlete programs, webinars, educational resources, and sustainability guides, FIS provided the knowledge and practical tools needed to drive sustainable change at every level of the sport.

Using Collaboration as a Catalyst for Sustainable Development

By bringing together expertise from academia, sport, industry, and international organizations, FIS accelerated progress on climate action, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable innovation to build long-term resilience. Key partners included the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the European Space Agency (ESA), the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the Stockholm Resilience Centre, Milano Cortina 2026, Politecnico di Milano, Ski Sport Finland, Solved, the Schwarzenegger Climate Initiative and Cool Earth.

Embedding Sustainability at the Governance Level

FIS is working with partners to promote the use of ISO 20121, the international standard for sustainable event management. This work ensures sustainability is considered during decision-making, elevates governance standards, and promotes better practices throughout the snow sports industry.

Alongside these efforts, initiatives such as the #CombinedForChange Sustainability Tour and the new FIS Climate Awards are encouraging sustainable practices and celebrating innovative approaches to environmental responsibility.

Putting Sustainability at the Heart of Internal Operations

By working closely with key stakeholders, FIS has improved how meetings and events are planned and delivered, with a focus on reducing the environmental impact of catering, travel, energy use, and waste management.

In addition, FIS remains committed to the Sports for Nature and UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action frameworks. Guided by the target to reduce emissions by 50% by 2030 and achieve net zero by 2040, FIS continues to lower its carbon footprint across the organization and throughout winter sports.

The FIS Impact Report 2025 Demonstrates Progress and Builds Momentum for the Future

This is now the second edition of the FIS Impact Report, and while the first was a declaration of intent, this one begins to venture into something more important: evidence.

The information contained in this report shows that the foundations we put in place are holding and that our methodology is maturing. It is also a testament to how the network of people, organizations, and institutions that FIS has brought together around this cause is not only growing, but also beginning to deliver.”

— Johan Eliasch, FIS President
