Following the launch of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation’s (FIS) Education Strategy, FIS is proud to introduce the FIS Education Guidelines for Technical Officials, alongside the release of the new FIS Education Website.

Education is a central pillar of FIS’s broader strategic plan. With the establishment of the FIS Knowledge & Education Center as the hub for educational coordination, FIS is building a strong foundation for consistent, modern, and inclusive learning across all disciplines. The FIS Education Guidelines for Technical Officials and the FIS Education Website are among the first initiatives to emerge from this work.

“With the Education Strategy, FIS set out to create a clear, structured, and future‑oriented approach to learning across snow sports. The launch of the Technical Official Guidelines and the Education Website marks an important step in turning this strategic vision into practical, accessible tools for our community.” Cornelia Blank, Senior Manager for Education at FIS

These releases are the beginning of a series of educational guidelines and resources that will follow in the coming years. Together, they reflect FIS’s commitment to delivering high-quality, state-of-the-art education that supports professional development and strengthens the long-term growth of snow sports.

Introducing the FIS Education Guidelines for Technical Officials

The FIS Education Guidelines for Technical Officials introduce the first formal framework under the new FIS Education Strategy. The guidelines define the pathway to becoming a FIS Technical Official, outlining how individuals are educated, certified, and supported in their ongoing development. They have been distributed to National Ski Associations (NSAs) and are also available on the new FIS Education Website

Technical Officials play a vital role in maintaining the highest standards at international competitions, ensuring winter sports events are delivered safely, fairly and consistently. Supporting their education and continued development is therefore essential to safeguarding the integrity of snow sports.

The Technical Official education pathway is structured around three key phases:

  • The Applicant Phase: Entry into the FIS pathway through e-learning, transitioning from NSA-level education.

  • The Candidate Phase: A qualification phase combining online and in-person learning as well as practical event training, tailored to each Technical Official role.

  • The Licensed Phase: Continuous development through regular learning updates, educational assignments, and active contributions to the sport.

Further details on each phase are available in the FIS Education Guidelines for Technical Officials, on the new FIS Education Website. The Guidelines will come into effect on July 1, 2026. New applicants must be nominated by their respective NSA by June 30.

The FIS Education Website: A Hub for Learning

While the release of the Technical Official Guidelines represents an important milestone, it is only the beginning. To further support education across the snow sports community, FIS has also launched the FIS Education Website—a central entry point for information on FIS education activities and learning opportunities.

Designed to support athletes, coaches, officials, NSA professionals, organizers, and other relevant stakeholders, such as medical staff, the platform provides structured access to learning programs, workshops, and online courses as they are developed.

“The Education Website brings together FIS education initiatives in one coherent, accessible space,” Blank added. “It is designed to support learning across different roles and stages, while creating greater transparency, consistency, and connection across the FIS family.”

The FIS Education Website brings together a growing range of initiatives and resources, including:

  • E-learning through Moodle: Online courses and seminar materials supporting self-paced learning for Technical Officials, complementing guided education formats.

  • Education resources and guidelines: Including the FIS Education Guidelines for Technical Officials, with further materials to follow.

  • Webinar series and learning events: A series of thematic online learning opportunities that support ongoing knowledge exchange across the snow sports community, such as the How to Train the Female Athlete Webinar Series.

Looking ahead:

Looking ahead, the FIS Education Website will continue to evolve, with further sections and resources being developed over time, including expanded athlete- and coach-focused content.

Step by step, it will establish itself as the go-to platform for the FIS family—supporting lifelong learning, professional development, and sustainable progress across snow sports.
