FIS mourns the loss of former Nordic Assistant Annemarie Friedrich

The skiing community is deeply saddened by the passing of Annemarie Friedrich – Imobersteg, former Nordic Assistant and cherished colleague, who left us last week at the age of 69, following a brief but courageous battle with illness. 

From 1995 to 2020, Annemarie played a vital role in coordinating the Nordic disciplines at FIS. Her dedication and passion for the sport, combined with her warmth and generosity, made her not only a valued colleague but also a dear friend. Her kindness and commitment made her a devoted teammate, universally respected and sincerely appreciated. 

“Annemarie was truly one of a kind. Her vibrant energy, her instinctive care for everyone around her, and her modesty paired with a deep passion for sport—especially Nordic disciplines—touched so many, from Organizers and Technical Officials to the FIS staff. I feel incredibly lucky to have worked alongside her for many years in various roles. Her professionalism, paired with humanity and clarity, left a lasting impression on all of us. She inspired me personally and countless others in the Nordic family. Her legacy will live on in the spirit, values, and warmth of the FIS community she helped shape,” shared Sandra Spitz, FIS Sport and Event Director. 

Annemarie’s contribution to FIS and the Nordic disciplines was marked by unwavering professionalism and heartfelt dedication. Her decades of service helped shape the foundation of our sport’s administration and community.
