FIS President Johan Eliasch Meets with the President of Kazakhstan

On 15 January 2026, FIS President Johan Eliasch met with the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in Astana to discuss opportunities for enhancing cooperation in the development of skiing and snowboarding.
President Tokayev highlighted Kazakhstan’s strong commitment to snow sports, noting that more than 85,000 people across the country regularly take part in skiing. He emphasized the nation’s modern infrastructure, including alpine and cross-country skiing complexes, which provide a solid foundation for future growth.
The Kazakh President also reaffirmed his government’s focus on developing snow sports and supporting its athletes in preparation for the upcoming Olympic Winter Games in Italy.
President Eliasch expressed his gratitude for President Tokayev’s support of sport and commended the achievements of Kazakh athletes at major FIS international competitions. He also recognized Kazakhstan’s continued investments in sport and praised the broader socio-economic reforms taking place in the country.
“FIS is committed to supporting this development through close cooperation with the Ski Federation of Kazakhstan, ensuring that more athletes and young people have access to skiing and snowboarding. Expanding participation globally is central to our mission, and Kazakhstan is an inspiring example of that ambition in action,” said Eliasch.
In recognition of his contribution to the development of skiing and snowboard sport in Kazakhstan, President Kassym‑Jomart Tokayev awarded Johan Eliasch the Order of Dostyk II degree.
