An Assistant Race Director for men’s speed events since 2022, Raimund Plancker is taking over as of 1 November the role of FIS Chief Race Director Alpine Men, following Markus Waldner’s decision to step down from the position. Plancker’s first assignment in the new role will be the Slalom race in Levi, Finland, on 15 November.

FIS will recruit a replacement for Plancker in the role of Assistant Race Director, but otherwise no changes are planned to the Alpine Men’s team, with Hannes Trinkl remaining as Race Director for speed events and Janez Hladnik for technical events.

“We are very happy to have agreed on an excellent solution for the team,” says FIS Alpine Director Janne Leskinen. “First and foremost, because Raimund is one of the most knowledgeable and respected voices in all of Alpine Skiing, but also because this ensures a healthy continuity.”

Originally from Val Gardena, in Italy, Plancker has been one of Alpine Skiing most successful and prestigious coaches, having spent a decade ahead of different elite teams within the Italian federation before joining FIS.

“I am proud and honored to take on this responsibility, and I am only doing so because I know that I will work hand in hand with an incredible team of professionals at FIS,” says Plancker, whose transition into the new role will also receive the support from Markus Waldner himself.

Over the last four years, I have learned a lot and have seen FIS and the sport change and grow. I am convinced that our team is on track to take Alpine Skiing even further and make it even fitter for the future.– Raimund Plancker, new FIS Chief Race Director Alpine Men
