Japan's Takehiro Watanabe made his World Cup debut in Lahti in 2013 but had his first full World Cup season in the winter of 2015/16. A talented ski jumper, Watanabe's name can be found in the Top Ten after the jumping events frequently but with a ninth place in Trondheim, Norway, the by then 22-year-old proved that he can hold his own during a 10 kilometre race, too.
In his still young career, Watanabe can add a team bronze medal from the Junior World Championships in Liberec in 2013 and a team silver from the 2015 Universiade in Strbske Pleso to his merit list and also finished in the overall Top 30 in his full first season in 2015/16.
