JWSC: Germany takes Team Sprint Gold and Marc Hodler Trophy

Richard Stenzel and Tristan Sommerfeldt won the gold medal at the Men’s Team Sprint in Planica (SLO).

The last Nordic Combined event of the FIS Junior Nordic World Ski Championships took place on 11th February and was also the premiere of the Team Sprint event.

Germany was already in the lead after the Ski Jumping competition on Planicas HS102, with Sommerfeldt reaching the furthest distance of the day with 100 meters. 
Stenzel jumped 96 meters, which brought the team a total of 245.9 points and an 11 second lead for the 2x7.5 km cross-country race.

Rank 2 after jumping went to team Austria, consisting of Jonas Fischbacher (96 m) and Individual Junior World Champion Paul Walcher (97 m), who collected a total of 237.5 points. 
Norway with Joergen Berget Storsveen (95.5 m) and Jens Dahlseide Kvamme (94.5 m) placed third, 17 seconds behind the leaders.

The athletes had to complete the 1.5 km course five times, changing after every round. 
In the end, all three teams defended their positions from the jumping part.

Sommerfeldt reached the finish line first, securing gold for Germany, 5.1 seconds ahead of Walcher, who claimed silver for the Austrian team. In an exciting finish sprint Kvamme (+47.4 sec) secured the bronze medal for Norway ahead of Atsushi Narita from Japan, who narrowly missed the podium by only 0.5 seconds.

With their victory, team Gemany also claimed the Marc Hodler Trophy.
