Heavy hitters on hand as SAC Cross season wraps up in Corralco

CORRALCO (CHI) — Featuring a world-class technical showcase, exceptional snow conditions, and a strong lineup of Olympic and World Cup athletes, the 2026 South American Cup (SAC) Ski Cross and Snowboard Cross seasons successfully wrapped up Corralco from 30 September to 1 October. These races are part of the Chile Winter Series circuit, one of the premier competition circuits in the southern hemisphere.

Nestled at the base of the Lonquimay Volcano, Corralco not only reaffirmed its strategic role on the South American circuit but also served once again as an exceptional training ground for top global athletes gearing up for the upcoming northern hemisphere winter. 

Ski Cross: Canadian dominance and a home podium for Chile

The Ski Cross events featured an exceptionally high technical level on Corralco’s dedicated course, highlighted by four-time Crystal Globe winner Reece Howden (CAN), who claimed 1st place in the Men’s category with a dominant display of speed in the finals. The Chilean Mateo Racloz also secured two top 3.

On the ladies side Hannah Schmidt (CAN) was dominant through the series, securing two straight first places, while Marielle Thompson (CAN), Sochi 2014 Olympic gold medallist, had some strong heats to finish 2nd.

Snowboard Cross: Victories for Canada, the USA, and Korea

In Snowboard Cross, the course demanded peak tactical execution across high-speed jumps and banked turns. Canada’s Rose Savard-Ferguson captured the Women’s 1st place on Race 1, while South American Champion Subeen Woo (KOR) won the second race to secure her title. On the mens side American rider Connor Schlegel took 1st place in both races, in a fiercely contested Men’s heats.

With another week of exceptional Ski and Snowboard Cross South American Cup races  in the books, Corralco has once again showcased itself as the highly desirable destination for national teams from Europe, North America, and Asia for early-season training camps and official FIS Continental Cup southern hemisphere races, and the resort aims to continue and grow this tradition in the coming seasons.
