Austria adds World Cup Super Team title to Olympic gold
Mar 08, 2026·Ski JumpingOlympic champion Jan Hoerl and 2024/25 Crystal Globe winner Daniel Tschofenig combined to ensure Austria concluded the final day of the Lahti Ski Games with victory, in a highly competitive Super Team World Cup contest.
Hoerl was partnered by Stephan Embacher at Milano Cortina 2026 last month, but Tschofenig earned his place in the Lahti World Cup line-up by winning Saturday’s men’s individual contest in impressive style.
Despite initially placing eighth after a challenging opener, Austria quickly fought back into contention.
A series of impressive leaps, combined with the first round disqualification of Japan's three-time Olympic medalist Ren Nikaido, helped put Austria top as the competition reached the halfway stage.
They would end their regulation six jumps with a combined score of 858.6 points.
That saw the duo attain a clear victory ahead of Slovenian Olympic Mixed Team gold medallists Domen Prevc and Anze Lanisek, who attained a total of 836.8pts.
“It was a great weekend for me and a great day for Jan (Hoerl) and me as we both showed great jumps,” Tschofenig told FIS. “It worked out in the Olympics (for Hoerl and Embacher) and now here.”
The largest celebrations of the day were reserved for hosts Finland who marked a near-perfect conclusion to the 2026 Lahti Ski Games.
Niko Kytosaho and Antti Aalto achieved a score of 805.3pts to overhaul Germany's Olympic Normal Hill gold medalist Philipp Raimund and team-mate Felix Hoffmann in the final round and secure their nation a first-ever World Cup Super Team top-three result.
“I’m super happy, to make the podium makes it was such a good weekend,” Kytosaho told FIS.
“We spoke about it before hand and thought if we jumped well we had a chance but somehow we found ourselves quite down after two jumps and I stated to look difficulty.
“However, for me it was probably the best jump of my life in the second round and also for Antti (Aalto) it was great so we are really happy.”
The men’s field will now head to Norway for a World Cup contest in Oslo (13-15 March) and Vikersund (20-22 March).
“Oslo is different to here, it’s not my favourite but I hope we’ll have some consistent wind and a lot of fun there,” added Tschofenig.
They will then conclude the ‘Olympic season’ in Planica (SLO) from 26-29 March.
