Kraft attains landmark World Cup points haul in Falun win
Nov 25, 2025·Ski JumpingThree-time World champion and Olympic gold medallist Stefan Kraft (AUT) added another honor to his astounding haul by claiming a victory in Falun (SWE) which saw him top the all-time standings of FIS Ski Jumping World Cup points scorers.
The Austrian, who is also three-time Crystal Globe winner, entered the only Normal Hill contest of the 2025/26 campaign needing to place in the top four to overhaul long-time pace-setter Janne Ahonen (FIN), who achieved 15,758pts during his incredible career.
Kraft’s first win of the season saw him set a new landmark of 15,811 overall points.
He secured his latest victory following two impressive jumps of 97.5m and 96.5m, which gave him an on-the-day points haul of 249.9.
Anze Lanisek (SLO) placed second, with a score of 247.7pts and Philipp Raimund (GER), who set a new hill record of 99.5m in the second round, completed the podium places after attaining an overall total of 244.9 pts.
Kraft also hit several other notable landmarks as result of his latest win, with the 32-year-old equalling the record number of individual World Cup victories, with 46, which he now shares with Matti Nykänen (FIN).
Success in Falun also sees Kraft add Sweden to a list of now 12 countries he has topped a World Cup podium in, which equals the record previously set by Gregor Schlierenzauer (AUT).
“That’s a really special win today,” Kraft told FIS. “I was trailing Ahonen with the most points and Nykänen with the victories, so to be on that historical list is an unbelievable and a really emotional moment.”
“I was nervous, but I jump well when I’m nervous and my style was aggressive today which worked really well with the perfect conditions.”
Kraft will return for the Large Hill competition on Wednesday, but has confirmed he will not contest the Ruka World Cup in Finland, with his wife, Marisa, due to give birth in early December.
Clear skis and little wind made for ideal ski jumping conditions as the men returned to Falun (SWE) for World Cup events for the first time since 2014.
Reigning Crystal Globe winner Daniel Tschofenig (AUT) had topped the standings during the morning qualification round, which took place barely 36 hours after the field had competed in the concluding World Cup event in Lillehammer (NOR).
Some athletes show noticeable signs of fatigue though, with World Cup leader Ryoyu Kobayashi (JPN) qualifying down in 30th.
He would be much-improved come the main contest though and ranked fourth, just ahead of Vladimir Zografski (BUL), who had earlier only just edged into the contest in 49th.
The Bulgarian was locked in a three-way tie for fifth with Stephan Embacher (AUT) and Philipp Raimund (GER). They were all just 7.5pts behind leader Kraft (AUT), who had set a new hill record of 97.5m, with Anze Lanisek (SLO) and Tschofenig second and third.
Manuel Fettner (AUT) made the greatest progress between the rounds, climbing seven places to rank 17th, while double 2025 World Championship silver medallist Jan Hoerl (AUT) rose four to place seventh.
Raimund had only once previously attained an individual World Cup top-three finish, back in Lake Placid (USA) in February last year, but he gave himself an outstanding chance of a second with a stunning new hill record of 99.5m.
None of his nearest rivals could match that and Tschofenig opted to take a different approach, moving down a gate in an attempt to unlock bonus points. They did not materialise, but that did not deter Lanisek who also left from gate 12, with his jump of 96m putting him top, with just Kraft to go.
The Austrian moved the gate back up to position 13 and celebrated wildly after landing an impressive 96.5m effort, but it was a nervous wait for the points to come in; before it was finally confirmed that he had done enough to claim an iconic victory by 2.2pts.
