Maruyama conquers all in Klingenthal Large Hill contest

Crystal Globe leader Nozomi Maruyama (JPN) extended her lead in the overall standings by returning to winning ways at the Klingenthal World Cup in Germany.
The Japanese ski jumper, who is enjoying a standout break-through season, secured her fourth victory from seven individual events in the 2025/26 campaign, with a narrow victory over double World champion Nika Prevc (SLO).
Maruyama, who had gone three events without a win, achieved jumps of 130m and 127m, which saw her attain a combined total of 240.5pts.
It saw her finish one point ahead of Prevc (SLO) who attained 239.5pts, with Lisa Eder (AUT) completing the podium places (231.9pts).
The Japanese jumper now holds a 154 point advantage over Prevc in the overall standings ahead of Klingenthal’s second women’s World Cup on Saturday.
“I can be satisfied, but I’m searching and looking at how I can get more points that has been missing for a better result,” Prevc told FIS after finishing second.
Prevc was rivalled by Katharina Schmid (GER) in the opening stages of the 2024/25 season, with the German, like Maruyama, also taking an early lead in the overall standings.
The Slovenian would ultimately go on to defend her Crystal Globe crown in a season which also saw her win the Two Nights Tour title, together with two individual World golds.
“She (Maruyama) is much more difficult to beat than last year, but it’s great to have such a good athlete at the top and have competition each week,” states Prevc.
“Last year I started so-so and finished pretty strong, so I hope for a common outcome.”
Following the retirement of Jacqueline Seifriedsberger and injury to Eva Pinkelnig – two of Austria’s line-up who helped claim World Team silver last season – Lisa Eder is now largely carrying the sole burden of placing her nation on the World Cup podium this season.
The 24-year-old has handled the responsibility well though and after attained four podium finishes during the 2024/25 campaign, she has already claimed three in the opening seven events.
‘I wasn't feeling particularly well this morning, I had a bit of a cold, but I got better with every jump and everything went really well in the final," said Eder.
“I hope I can pick up tomorrow in the second competition where I left off today. I'm looking forward to the second competition here in Klingenthal.”
