Strøm back on top with victory marking Norway’s 200th Ski Jumping World Cup win
Dec 04, 2025·Ski JumpingAnna Odine Strøm (NOR) has claimed her career-fourth individual World Cup win as she jumped to victory in Wisla, Poland, on Thursday. It marks her first individual World Cup triumph since February 2023, signaling a strong return to form after struggling with injuries.
With her victory in Wisla, Strøm also secured a historic milestone: Norway’s 200th all-time individual World Cup victory across men’s and women’s FIS Ski Jumping contests.
The 27-year-old produced 127m and 124m jumps to attain an overall score of 246.0 points finishing 5.1 points ahead of Abigail Strate (CAN). Three-time World Cup winner Nozomi Maruyama (JPN) landed in third with a total of 236.9 points. Maruyama still leads the way in the overall Crystal Globe standings.
Strøm had her best season in 2022/23, when she notched 10 top-three finishes, including a hat-trick of wins. After a serious knee injury sidelined her the following season, she is now steadily regaining her top form. Three runner-up finishes in the latter stages of the 2024/25 season, along with an individual World Championship Normal Hill bronze and a Grand Prix victory, already underlined her return to the top.
Answers
The Norwegian was happy to add a World Cup win on Thursday. “It’s good to be back performing well”, Strøm said. “I’ve been jumping good all day. It’s amazing to get these answers”, she said, referring to her first place. “Jumping this well and being back on top is amazing. It wasn’t easy the first time, and it is not easier coming back from injuries. I’ve tried my best all the way, and I’m happy about this.”
After narrowly missing the podium in Falun last week with a fourth-place finish, Strøm said she focused on “keeping up the good work” and sticking to the basics. “It looks like I’m starting to get good answers now."
Beating Maruyama feels 'great'
The 2025 World team and mixed team champion with Norway already topped the qualification rankings earlier on Thursday, finishing ahead of Maruyama and Lisa Eder (AUT).
The Norwegian never let go of that lead in the afternoon. Strøm’s impressive 124.6-point first jump made the difference, helping her finish ahead of Strate and Maruyama.
Strøm said beating Maruyama, who had been a class apart in the opening three events of the season, winning by a considerable margin in each, felt ‘great’. “It’s nice to see someone actually can”, Strøm laughed. “It didn’t seem like that a couple of weeks ago when Nozomi won by a landslide, and Nika (Prevc) as well in Falun. They’ve been doing amazing all season. I just kept on doing my own stuff and it seems like it’s good enough to win still.”
Second podium for Strate this season
Strate claimed her second podium finish of the season, having finished second at the opening World Cup in Lillehammer (NOR).
The 24-year-old sat in fourth place after the first jump but climbed to second thanks to an impressive second jump of 131 m, earning 126.3 points.
“I’m happy about this”, Strate said about her second place. “I had some struggles with speed in Falun (last week) and have worked on that since. I just had to feel confident again”, she added.
The Canadian expressed optimism for the next day’s competition. “Hopefully I can do more good jumps, more far ones with good landings”, Strate laughed.
Maruyama dropped from second to third after a disappointing second jump, finishing just one point ahead of fourth-place-finisher Heidi Traaserud (NOR), while Lisa Eder (AUT) took fifth place.
Disqualification Prevc
Reigning Crystal Globe champion Nika Prevc (SLO) was disqualified after the qualification round for having skis that were one centimeter too long relative to her body weight. Prevc had actually produced the best qualification jump (119 m), but a small length margin pushed her skis outside the allowed regulations. “It doesn't matter whether you win the qualifications or come last — the rules are the same for everyone and must be respected,” Slovenian women’s head coach Jurij Tepeš said afterward.
The women compete again on Friday, while the men start their first qualifications on Friday evening. Their World Cup events will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
