High-speed winds see Vikersund Word Cup cancelled
Mar 22, 2026·Ski JumpingThe final event of the FIS Ski Jumping World Cup weekend in Vikersund (NOR) was cancelled after high-speed and fluctuating winds made it impossible for organisers and race officials to ensure a fair competition could take place.
Earlier on Sunday the second round of the Women’s World Cup had to be abandoned following deterioration in the conditions, which resulted in first round leader Eirin Maria Kvandal (NOR) collecting her second successive victory on her home hill.
It was hoped that the weather may improve by the afternoon, but following the cancellation of the qualification round and a series of delays to the planned start, officials ultimately decided it was not possible to proceed with the planned men’s event.
“We were trying everything today but it was not our day,” stated FIS Ski Jumping Race Director Sandro Pertile.
“I want to thank the jury for their work today and over the weekend. Now we move to Planica (SLO).”
Olympic medalist Kacper Tomasiak (POL), who suffered a fall in the early stages of qualifying before it was abandoned, reassured his followers that “everything is fine” and thanked them “for the support” later in the day.
The next and final stage of the 2025/26 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup will see the field head to Slovenia for the traditional end-of-season Ski Flying contest in Planica.
Following victory for Stephan Embacher (AUT) on Saturday and two second-place finishes in the first Ski Flying World Cup in Kulm (AUT), just over three weeks ago, the Olympic Super Team champion heads to Slovenia leading the race for the Ski Flying Crystal Globe.
However, Olympic large hill champion and reigning World Ski Flying champion Domen Prevc (SLO) will be looking to retain the title he won last season.
