World’s best Ski Jumpers reunite in Wisła: four days of fierce rivalries await
Dec 03, 2025·Ski Jumping
The world’s best male and female ski jumpers reunite in Wisla (POL) for four days of World Cup action from 4–7 December. After an impressive performance last weekend, Slovenia’s World Cup leader Anže Lanišek arrives in top form, aiming to continue his winning ways.
Lanišek has fond memories of the Wisła hill, where he earned his first career World Cup podium in 2019 with a second-place finish behind Norway’s Daniel-André Tande.
Since then, the Slovenian has become a frequent podium contender. The 29-year-old had an excellent start of the 2025/26 FIS Ski Jumping World Cup season, collecting two victories and a second place from the five events held so far.
Slovenian ski jumpers have never won an individual World Cup event in Wisla. Lanisek has twice finished second in the Polish city (2019, 2022) and is eager to turn those near-misses into victory.
Teammates Domen and Peter Prevc recorded a third (2017) and second place (2015) respectively.
Advantage
Anze Lanisek holds an advantage of 86 points from team-mate Domen Prevc, in the Overall Crystal Globe standings, with Ryoyu Kobayashi (JPN) in third.
Reigning Crystal Globe champion Daniel Tschofenig (AUT), who won the first World Cup of the year, sits in fourth.
Jan Hörl (AUT), who claimed his first career win in an individual World Cup event in Wisla four years ago (2021), is among the contenders for a place on the podium this time around. His compatriot Stefan Kraft (AUT) misses the World Cup in Poland.
Last year in Wisła, Daniel Tschofenig (AUT) and Pius Paschke (GER) each claimed victory on the hill.
Hosts Poland will be represented by Kacper Tomasiak (POL), competing in his first World Cup season, while experienced jumpers Piotr Żyła and Aleksander Zniszczol aim to shine on their home hill.
Joining the group of men looking to continue their breakthrough seasons is Ren Nikaido (JPN), who claimed his first-ever individual World Cup podium last weekend.
Nika Prevc vs. Nozomi Maruyama
It’s only the second-ever World Cup weekend for women in Wisła—and their first on snow, in Poland as previous women's competitions here were held in hybrid mode with an ice track and plastic matting for the landing, similar to the Summer Grand Prix.
Reigning Crystal Globe champion Nika Prevc (SLO) aims to build on her victory from last weekend, but will face stiff competition from Japan’s Nozomi Maruyama. The Japanese star won the first three World Cup events of the season and finished just behind Prevc in the second event in Falun last weekend.
Maruyama, who had never won an individual World Cup prior to this season, currently leads the Overall World Cup standings with 380 points, holding a 124-point advantage over Prevc. Austria’s Lisa Eder sits in third place, rounding out the top three at the moment.
The World Cup in Wisła will feature four consecutive days of competition, with the women jumping on Thursday and Friday and the men competing on Saturday and Sunday.
