If winning a championship is never easy, defending your title is an almighty task. No matter the difficulty, Maurizio Bormolini (ITA) did it anyway. He even added another trophy for good measure.
The Italian Snowboard Alpine star became the first man since Zan Kosir in 2015 to clinch all three parallel snowboarding crystal globes in one season. This comes just one year after Bormolini grabbed the overall and PGS titles in 2025.

It was not always smooth sailing for Bormolini this season. Bormolini was born in Tirano, Italy, less than two hours away from Livigno, which hosted the snowboard Alpine events at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
Those Games and the hometown crowd brought a lot of pressure to Bormolini. He desperately wanted to deliver on his home snow, but he walked away with no hardware. No medals. No Olympic glory.
Yet Bormolini climbed out of that dark place to close the season strong.
Bormolini became a father during the 2025-26 World Cup season, after his partner gave birth to a girl a week before the 2026 Olympics. Even though he bounced back, he will not soon forget the feeling of missing the Olympic podium.

Bormolini seemed to use that burning feeling as fuel to close out the 2026 World Cup season.
The Italian came roaring out of the gates with three straight wins on the World Cup circuit following the Olympics. He added another podium in the final month to clinch his three globes.
The new addition to his family gave him the boost he needed down the stretch.

His entire family are also in on the cause.
That familial love and support also helps Bormolini keep a great attitude. He is one of the most energetic on tour. He often throws a fist pump and dons an ear-to-ear smile when crossing the finish line. The joy shines through even in defeat, as he lends support to the other athletes as well. Bormolini is in it for the speed and battle of competition.

Bormolini welcomes the competition and uses his competitors as more motivating forces, especially his Italian teammates.

The Italian men dominated the circuit this season. They won 10 of the 17 men’s races this season and racked up 24 podium spots.
Those results will certainly push Bormolini to lead the strong team once again. He will surely work hard this offseason for another year of Italian triumph. First off, there will be w much deserved offseason to recover and prepare.
What does the man who accomplished it all do in the offseason as he goes for a three-peat next season? The answer is easy for Bormolini.
