Italy 1’s Tommaso Costa and Lisa Francesia Boirai ended the 2026 FIS Junior World Championships Snowboard Cross in St Moritz on a high, claiming the Mixed Team title.

Italy have never previously won the Mixed Team event at a Junior World Championships, which has historically been dominated by France. The French went away empty-handed on Monday in St Moritz, despite two of their three teams reaching the semifinals.

It was a second gold medal for Francesia Boirai, who also won the women’s individual event on Friday, while Costa added to his individual bronze medal.

Kenny Schlaeppi and Noemie Wiedmer (Switzerland 1) took silver, to go with their individual silver medals. Schlaeppi and Wiedmer won their quarterfinal, but were pipped to first place in the semifinal by Hanna Percy and Hamel Mason (USA).

In the big final, Wiedmer’s experience on the World Cup stage showed to help her secure her third Junior World Championships silver medal, an upgrade from her fourth-place finish alongside Laurin Furrer last year.

Switzerland 2, Etienne Luedi and Nuria Gubser, picked up bronze. The medal was a first for both riders; Gubser narrowly missed out on an individual podium on Friday, finishing fourth in the women’s big final.

Luedi and Gubser had to come through the pre-heats, but after winning that race they also crossed the line first in both the quarterfinal and semifinal, ahead of Costa and Francesia Boirai. They were unable to repeat that performance to take gold on home snow, but were all smiles after taking the bronze.

Percy and Hamel had looked to improve on the bronze medal won by Nathan Pare and Brianna Schnorrbusch at the 2025 FIS Junior World Championships in Isola 2000, but when it came to the big final, the USA duo could not find the speed to challenge for the medals, and finished fourth.

Rosa Collela and Jonas Aschillier (Switzerland 3) took fifth place overall in a strong showing for the hosts. France 1 (Fiona Caiolo Serra and Benjamin Niel) beat France 2 (Emmy Biermans and Leon Engilberge) for sixth place, while Romania 1, Kata Mandel and Zoltan Benczedi, finished eighth.

Monday also saw the medal ceremonies for the individual events, which had been moved forward to Friday to avoid the weekend’s snowstorms.

The Mixed Team wrapped up the racing at the Junior World Championships Snowboard Cross, and the quality of racing highlighted the strong future of the discipline – with many of the medallists still able to race as juniors in 2027 and even 2028.
