Scandinavian podium in the alpine combined of the Fis Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in Val di Fassa, which underlines the golden comeback of the Swedish Tobias Hedström, great surprise of the day, with the two Norwegian talents Atle Lie McGrath and Lucas Braathen second and third.
For Sweden this is the first gold medal at the Fis Alpine Junior World Ski Championships in Val di Fassa, the second after the bronze medal won by Elsa Haakansson Fermbaeck in the slalom.
Hedström finds the perfect day in the highlight of the season, nineteenth in the SuperG held in the morning on La VolatA at Passo San Pellegrino. Then there is the extraordinary comeback in the slalom on Aloch di Pozza di Fassa, with Hedström author of the second best time just one cent from the Norwegian Kaspar Kindem, who in turn climbed from thirtieth to sixth place.
"I really don't know what to say, this result is crazy - comments Hedström - I tried to ski at my best, but I would never have thought of a medal. In slalom I had the chance to start with a good bib and I was able to make the most of it. Now I will be at the start of the slalom and the giant: this medal will give me one more motivation”.
McGrath, ninth after SuperG, is second at 42 cents, with Braathen just behind, third at 0"45, tenth in the morning race despite the his bib number, 77. Extrovert on the track as well as in the interviews, the Norwegian presents himself as the real character of the Fis Alpine Junior World Ski Championships, already silver in SuperG and now awaited protagonist for Monday in the giant slalom, where he will go for the medal of the most valuable color.
Nothing to do for the new SuperG junior world champion and vice junior world champion of the team event, the American River Radamus, who sets the best time on La VolatA and then sees the third medal fade for just 4 cents.
For Italy there is the ninth place of Pietro Canzio, who climbed from 27th to 9th place.
