The World Cup Levi opens the Alpine Skiing women's slalom World Cup season and the third time in a row with two races on November 19-20, 2022.

Almost 60,000 cubic meters of snow was stored on the Levi Black ski slope in the spring, and thanks to the stored snow, the ski slope was finished in top condition this year as well. Peter Gerdol (FIS), gave the green light for the opening of the Women's Slalom World Cup.

- We have seen the organizing committees and the Levi Ski Resort hard work, which they have done on the slope in the last few weeks. The slope and the snow are ready for the competition. After two challenging corona years, the event can finally be made a full public event again, where the competitors are also involved in the starting number draw during Friday's opening ceremony, side events for the public and full grandstands, says Peter Gerdol.

- Snow control was a routine inspection, and the stored snow ensures the completion of the event again. All four women's World Cup competitions held before Levi have been cancelled so that Levi will open the women's World Cup season, says Peteri Tuomikoski, Levi's world cup competition director.

- Due to the unfortunate cancellations of the World Cup competitions, we are finally ready to open the women's World Cup season and we are looking forward to this, says Peter Gerdol, Chief of race directors.

Levi has had an exceptional number of skiers from alpine teams training from the beginning of November. 16 national teams have trained on the Front slope and on the Levi Black race slope, which will be closed for training on Saturday 12 November 2022 for the upcoming race weekend.

- It's my first time in Levi to train before the competition and I'm glad we're here. Now I also have time to get to know Levi, because there is usually a rush and a bit of stress during the competition, and there is not much time left for anything else, says two-time Olympic champion Mikaela Shiffrin (USA).

American Mikaela Shiffrin has won Levi's competition four times, while Slovakian alpine skier Petra Vlhová has won in Levi five times already. Petra Vlhová (SVK) is also currently training at Levi and plans to visit her winning reindeer on her break day.

- It's been good conditions to practice here. I like Levi's race and the slope, because it offers everything that a slalom track should have. I'm trying to win again this year, but it won't be easy, the other women are fast and skilled. We've been here for a week already, so I want to see my reindeer on a rest day, says Petra Vlhová.
