Some exciting news came out of Kazakhstan on Friday, where the Kazakhstan Ski Association, along with FIS, Infront and other stakeholders, came to an agreement to host the 2021 FIS Freestyle Ski Moguls and Aerials World Championships from the 8th to 11th of March.

Due to the development of the covid-19 pandemic and health and safety measures implemented by the Chinese health authorities and government, the FIS Freestyle, Freeski and Snowboard World Championships originally scheduled for Zhangjiakou had to be cancelled earlier this season.

The Kazakhstan Ski Association is putting in an enormous amount of effort to host this major event on short notice, however all parties involved feel supremely confident that as experienced World Cup organisers they will be able to step up to hold successful World Championships.

“We love the spirit of freestyle skiing here in Kazakhstan and we’re proud to appear on the global map with the highest level of events,” said the Secretary General of Kazakhstan Ski Association Askar Valiyev, “The city of Almaty is ready to welcome all the participants and we can assure to provide safe and reliable conditions for the teams. See you soon on sunny slopes of Shymbulak!”

Shymbulak, which will host both aerials and moguls competitions, is one of the most modern mountain resorts in Central Asia with a rich history of hosting sporting events. Also with the start section located at 2570 meters above the sea level, the venue at Shymbulak boasts the highest elevation on the entire FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup tour. The highest peaks of the surrounding resort, meanwhile, reach over 4500 meters above sea level, and with its modern infrastructure and enormous big mountain terrain surrounding the resort, Shymbulak holds all the pieces to soon became a top-level destination for ski enthusiast from all around the World.

Looking back at the successful events held at Shymbulak during the 2017 Winter Universiade, as well as two editions of moguls World Cup competitions in 2019 and 2020, it’s fair to expect that the resort will deliver an extraordinary showcase of world’s best freestyle skiing at the 2021 FIS Freestyle Ski Moguls and Aerials World Championships this March.

Competition programme:

Moguls:                8th March, 2021

Dual Moguls:       9th March, 2021
