Another Gravenfors has made his mark in Moguls skiing at the FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships. Three years after his elder brother Filip won a double on the same stage, Noel Gravenfors (SWE) is now also a world junior champion.

The 18-year-old achieved the feat on 22 March in Airolo, Switzerland, clinching the Dual Moguls event after beating Jack Egan (USA) in a tight contest to win 19-16.

Sweden's Noel Gravenfors won the men's Dual Moguls title, with Jack Egan and Matyas Kroupa taking silver and bronze respectively.

On a day where testy terrain and wayward weather demanded the most of skiers, it was clear how much the gold meant to Noel as he let out an exuberant shout when results were revealed.

Inclement weather and heavy fog had meant that competition was a start-stop affair, with plenty of pauses and uncertainty, taking almost an hour for just three runs to be completed at the start. Not only were conditions tricky for athletes to ski in, staying locked in was also a test for everyone.

“I don’t know how to describe it. The feeling is crazy,” said Gravenfors. “The course was really good, a lot of snow, tough conditions, so I’m just so happy I got to put down good runs today. I’m really happy.”

His elder brother, 21-year-old Filip, is one of the most successful athletes at the FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships, with two golds and two bronzes to his name.

The result caps a wildly successful outing for the Swedish Moguls team, adding to golds in the men’s and women’s Moguls, as well as the Dual Moguls Team title won a day earlier.

The squad fell just short of perfection, after Flavie Lamontagne (CAN) narrowly beat Olivia Hedberg (SWE) in the women’s Dual Moguls big final to win 19-16.

Lamontagne, who described the win as “unreal”, ensured the gold would add to Canada’s rich heritage in Moguls skiing.

Victoria Johnson (USA) took the bronze in the women’s Dual Moguls contest, after beating Riku Nonobe (JPN) 22-13. In the men’s field, last year’s champion Matyas Kroupa (CZE) settled for bronze ahead of Ryoma Hayashi (JPN).

The Dual Moguls competition brings the curtains down on the FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships.

Flavie Lamontagne of Canada took the women's Dual Moguls gold, followed by Olivia Hedberg and Victoria Johnson in second and third.
