Tazawako dual moguls World Cup cancelled due to weather

Officials were forced to cancel the FIS Freestyle Dual Moguls World Cup slated for Sunday afternoon in Tazawako (JPN) after heavy fog throughout the day delayed competition to the point that it was impossible to successfully complete the programme in the time allotted.
While the first part of the preliminary rounds took to the Tazawako course under fair conditions, the snow and fog moved in quickly before the men's round of 64 was completed. Though officials and organisers delayed proceedings for as long as possible while looking for a break in the weather, eventually it became clear that the competition wouldn't be able to move forward.
"It was a tough week here preparing the slope with a lack of snow and some warm weather," explained FIS Freestyle race director Konrad Rotermund, "And then today, when the slope was in the best shape it's been in all week, Mother Nature brought some of that famous Japanese powder. The fog and the snow today pushed everything back so that we were only able to complete part of the preliminary rounds before we simply ran out of time in the day to move forward.
"I'd like to thank to the local organizers here in Tazawako for their hard work and their dedication to freestyle skiing. We're looking forward to returning next season."
Sunday was the first time in six seasons of competition in Tazawako that a competition was cancelled.
From here, the FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup now moves to Almaty, Kazakhstan, for dual moguls and aerials competition on March 1, 2020.
