Hard blow for the Swiss men's skicross team. Three weeks before the first World Cup event of the season in Val Thorens, two of its athletes have been injured. First, Marc Bischofberger. The winner of the Crystal Globe in the discipline in 2018 fell victim to a workplace accident while doing DIY. The 32-year-old Appenzell native cut his left thumb, affecting his flexor tendon. The Olympic vice-champion of PyeongChang had to undergo surgery and will be absent from the slopes for three months. This means he will miss a significant part of the winter. Fortunately, he will find an extra source of joy waiting at home with his newly born baby boy Rio.

The second affected athlete is Luca Lubasch. The Bernese skier tore the capsule of his left big toe and broke the sesamoid bone in his left foot during gym training. A minimum three-month setback has also been announced for the 28-year-old athlete, who is aiming for a comeback to the top after showing a promising form but unfortunately tearing a cruciate ligament in his knee at the start of the season a year ago.

As a reminder, the Swiss team had suffered a major blow last winter, as Ryan Regez and Alex Fiva, who had achieved a double at the Beijing Olympic Games, had also experienced a serious knee injury in the very beginning of the season. Vaud native Romain Détraz had fallen victim to a herniated disc mid-season. All three of them are back on snow and we are looking forward to welcoming them back on tour this season. Check out the video below to see Fiva already challenging his opponents on the glacier.
