Austrian Johannes Lamparter secured the victory of the Mass Start in Klingenthal (GER), after Vinzenz Geiger from Germany was in the lead after the cross-country part yesterday.

Due to difficult wind conditions at the Vogtland Arena HS 140 the Official Training, Provisional Competition Round and Competition round for the Men’s Individual Viessmann FIS World Cup had to be cancelled.

Therefore, the competition format was changed to a Mass Start.

After the traditional starting shot, all 54 athletes, led by the top 3 of the Overall World Cup, went together in the snowy 10 km race in Klingenthal (GER).

Due to the short time gaps, there were continuous changes in lead at the front of the field. Ilkka Herola from Finland lead the large group after 2km, closely followed by Norwegian Jens Luraas Oftebro and Julian Schmid from Germany, while Overall World Cup leader Jarl Magnus Riiber saved his strength in the middle of the field, after an infection two weeks ago.

A large group of 20 athletes went through most of the race together, before Oftebro and Johannes Lamparter started an attack on the final climb in the last lap.
Strong skier Vinzenz Geiger and Eric Frenzel didn’t let them pull away, so that the four entered the stadium together.

With a powerful attack, Geiger sprinted past his competitors in the last corner and was the first to cross the finish line, 1.2 seconds ahead of Jens Luraas Oftebro, who narrowly beat Eric Frenzel (+1.3 seconds) on rank 3.

The Ski Jumping competition on the HS 140 took place Sunday morning at 8:30 CET, after an Official Training round.

With a jump on the furthest distance of the day of 141 meters (146.2 pts), Johannes Lamparter from Austria secured the victory of the Mass Start.
Rank 2 was taken by his team mate Franz-Josef Rehrl with 139 meters and 141.8 points, while Overall World Cup leader Jarl Magnus Riiber placed third with 136.5 meters (139.3 pts).

Lamparter is therefore also the current leader of the trivago German Trophy.
