Lillehammer (NOR): Hansen wins first womens World Cup 2022/23

Gyda Westvold Hansen is the winner of the womens first World Cup competition in the 2022/23 season.

The Norwegian was already in the lead after the Ski Jumping competition on the HS98 in Lillehammer this morning.

Yesterdays PCR winner jumped the furthest distance of the day with 101 meters (134.3 pts) in the morning and took the lead. Therefore, she was the first one to start into the 5 km at the Birkebeineren stadium this afternoon.

Rank 2 after jumping went to Annika Sieff from Italy, who landed at 96.5 meters (131.3 pts) and went into the course 12 seconds after Hansen.

Austrian Lisa Hirner (91 mts, 116.1 pts) placed third, 1:13 min behind the leader from Norway.

During the Cross-Country race, Hansen grew the distance to her pursuers already during the first lap and had a 34.5 sec lead over Sieff after 2.5 km. 
Meanwhile, a tight fight for the last podium position took place with Nathalie Armbruster and Lisa Hirner going through the race together. 
Constantly expanding her leadership, Westvold Hansen was 52.6 sec ahead at the 4.3 km mark and and the secured the victory of the first event of the season 1:11.5 min before Annika Sieff on rank two, who defended her position after Ski Jumping.

Nathalie Armbruster started showed her strengths on skis in the last lap, pulling away from Hirner while entering the stadium and reaching the first World Cup podium of her career on with a 3rd place (+1:29.6 min).

With her victory today, Gyda Westvold Hansen took over the yellow bib, leading the overall World Cup.
