Oberstdorf (GER): Lamparter defends yellow bib

Johannes Lamparter is the winner of the first Individual Gundersen in Oberstdorf (GER) and defends his lead in the Overall World Cup and German Trophy ranking.

The Austrian was already in the lead after the Ski Jumping competition on the Schattenbergschanze HS137 today.

Under snowy conditions the 21-year-old jumped the furthest distance of the day with 139 meters (151.9 pts) and took the lead. Therefore, he was the first one to start into the 10 km at the Ried cross-country stadium this afternoon.

Rank 2 after jumping went to his team mate Franz-Josef Rehrl, who set a new hill record yesterday and reached 135.5 meters this morning. With 148.1 points the Austrian started the race 15 seconds after Lamparter.

Also the third place was taken by Austria with Mario Seidl (137 mts, 144.9 pts), who followed his team members 28 seconds later.

In light snowfall the 10 km race started at the Ried Cross-Country Stadium in the afternoon. 
Rehrl closed the gap to Lamparter already in the first lap, while Seidl (+32.2 sec) couldn’t keep up with the high pace of his team mates and was caught by Kristjan Ilves (+32.7 sec) after 2.5 km. 
Meanwhile, Jens Luraas Oftebro (+38.2 sec), Julian Schmid (+38.7 sec) and Laurent Mühlethaler (+39.5 sec) build the second chasing group after half of the race and worked together to close the gap to the front.

After 6.2 km they caught up to Ilves and Seidl, so that a total of five athletes was fighting for rank three at this time.

In the last lap, Oftebro broke away from the group and quickly closed the gap to Rehrl (+21.1 sec), who couldn’t follow Lamparter anymore.

While the young Austrian secured the victory in front of a packed tribune full of fans, Oftebro caught Rehrl on the last uphill and reached the finish line on rank 2, 19.4 seconds behind. Rehrl finished third, 22.3 seconds behind Lamparter.
