Another setback for Severin Freund

For Severin Freund, who made his comeback in the World Cup after a long break due to injuries last November in Ruka (FIN), this season is already over now after yet another health setback.

"After my knee was doing really well until shortly before the 4-Hills-Tournament, it got worse again during the Tournament and in the following weeks. There was no direct trigger that caused this pain. The pain was just there and that's why I wasn't able to make progress with my jumps. I was also not pain-free after a training and competition break with regeneration and treatment and so I decided, in coordination with the doctors, to have another knee surgery. That's why I underwent surgery on the meniscus yesterday in Munich", the 30-year-old writes on facebook.

Severin Freund will miss the World Championships in Seefeld, the big goal the former overall World Cup winner has set for himself during his way back after two ACL ruptures. But the German has already set his sights on the next major event. "Of course this break now is another setback, but it doesn't change my goals of competing in the World Cup again next season and being competitive in the World Championships on my home soil in Oberstdorf 2012, almost exactly two years from now", the German continues.

In Ruka last November, Severin Freund took part in World Cup event again for the first time since January 2017 after sustaining two serious knee injuries. His best World Cup result since then was the 22nd place in Nizhny Tagil in December. In January he was third in a Continental Cup competition in Bischofshofen.
