Ryoyu Kobayashi wins final test for World Championships

Ryoyu Kobayashi won the final individual competition before the upcoming Nordic World Championships in Oberstdorf (GER) in Rasnov (ROU) on Friday afternoon.
The Japanese took the win in the first and only World Cup on the normal hill this winter with jumps of 94 m and 98.5 m and 257.9 points. It was the 18th World Cup win of the 24-year-old, who is now the Japanese male ski jumper with the most World Cup wins in history. So far he shared this record with Ski Jumping legend Noriaki Kasai, who won 17 times so far.
"I am satisfied with my jumps today, they were pretty good. I am also happy with the second podium of the season after last week in Zakopane and a very long drought before that. We did not have that many possibilities to train this summer, so I don't have such a good feeling, as in the past years, but I am getting more self-confidence right in time for the World Championships in Oberstdorf", said today's winner.
Kamil Stoch of Poland came in on a strong second place on the HS 97 today with 92.5 m and 97.5 m and 256.3 points, obviously, he is among the top favorites for the World Championships, where the first event will also be held on a normal hill. "I had some ups and downs in the last weeks, so I am really happy with my jumps today. I had to focus on my inrun position, which usually costs me a lot of energy. I'm happy that the improvements we made worked so fast. I love jumping, so each good jump always gives me a lot of satisfaction. Even if I had not made it to the podium today, I know I have made a big step forward. I know my jumps are now much better than they were one week ago", explained Kamil Stoch.
After a few difficult weeks recently, Germany's Karl Geiger showed a strong performance again today. With 94.5 m and 96.5 m and 255.7 points, he finished third. An important result for him, shortly before the WSC in his hometown Oberstdorf. "My jumps in the past weeks were not that good, so I am unbelievably happy with today’s result and the fact that I was able to fight for the podium in today’s competition. I like the hill in Rasnov, I have won here before", said Geiger.
Besides Stoch, Dawid Kubacki and Piotr Zyla provided for an outstanding result of the Polish team in fourth and fifth. Daniel Andre Tande was the best Norwegian in sixth, highflyer Halvor Egner Granerud was disqualified in first position after the final round because his suit was not compliant with the rules. The seventh place went to Pius Paschke of Germany.
Surprisingly, Austrian veteran Manuel Fettner was tied for the lead after the first round with Halvor Egner Granerud, and even though he was not able to defend this position in the final round, he still achieved a top result in eighth. Right behind him, his young teammate Daniel Tschofenig achieved the by far best result of his career in ninth. Switzerland's Gregor Deschwanden also made the Top 10 today.
In the overall World Cup, Halvor Egner Granerud remains in the clear lead with 1544 points, followed by Markus Eisenbichler (1018 points), who was disqualified for the same reason as Granerud today, and Kamil Stoch (944 points).
The last competition of the weekend in Rasnov is the mixed team event on Saturday at 9:45 am CET (Start list).
