After a long break and major reconstruction, one of the most traditional Ski Jumping facilities is new as good as new again. About 22 million dollars were invested to renovate the 1932 and 1980 Olympic hills in Lake Placid (USA).

In 1980, Austria's Toni Innauer and Finland's Jouko Toermaenen, who passed away in 2015, claimed the gold medals on this hill, in 1932 it was Norwegian Birger Ruud who took Olympic gold there.

Only about a five-hour drive north of New York City, the MacKenzie Intervale Ski Jumping Complex in Lake Placid made sports and Ski Jumping history like only a few other venues in the world, but it's been a while since then.
The most recent World Cup competitions were held there in 1990, the winners then were Germany's Andre Kiesewetter on the large hill and Austria's Andreas Felder on the normal hill. After this event, a few Continental Cups took place in Lake Placid, most recently, Anette Sagen of Norway won in 2007.

Now the facility was modernized and training is already possible.
The first big highlight is already coming up in December when the US Olympic Trials for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined are held in Lake Placid. In the USA, these trials are almost part of the Olympic Games, whoever wins, gets to compete in the Olympics.

This means that a part of the Olympics will return to Lake Placid on December 24th and 25th. Among the athletes fighting for the win, there are Nina Lussi, a Lake Placid-native who wants to qualify for her first Olympics, and Andrew Urlaub, who showed strong performances in this year's FIS Grand Prix.
In the medium term, FIS Continental Cup and World Cup events are possible again in Lake Placid. Already in March 2022, a women's Continental Cup will be held in the State of New York.

"We are extremely happy that besides Iron Mountain, there's now a second venue in the USA with the potential to host international FIS competitions", FIS Race Director Sandro Pertile said about the modernization of this hill.
