The final parallel slalom World Cup race of the season went down on Saturday to kick off an exciting weekend of top-tier racing action in Berchtesgaden (GER). Switzerland’s Julie Zogg secured the PSL title with victory on the women’s side, while Andreas Prommegger (AUT) and Edwin Coratti (ITA) came with a tie for top spot in men’s competition, with Prommegger also winning the PSL crystal globe in the process.

With the PSL race in Berchtesgaden acting as the final individual competition in 2021/22, Ramona Theresia Hofmeister (GER) and Sangho Lee (KOR) were handed out the big crystal globes for winning the parallel overall World Cup classifications.

On Saturday, however, it was Julie Zogg who stormed to her third victory in parallel slalom this season, while racing against some tough competition from the likes of Julia Dujmovits (AUT), Lucia Dalmasso (ITA), Ramona Theresia Hofmeister (GER) and finally Megan Farrell (CAN) in the big final matchup.

By edging out Farrell in the final heat of women’s competition, Zogg put the cherry on top of the cake and thus repeated her PSL title also in 2021/22. Zogg took what was in fact her fourth consecutive, and career’s fifth PSL World Cup title on the strength of three victories in four competitions this season.

In the final parallel slalom World Cup standing Zogg led the way with 345 points. Tsubaki Miki (JPN) finished the campaign in second place with 252 points, while Hofmeister completed the women’s podium in third place with 250 points.

Finishing in second place on the day, Megan Farrell capped off her best World Cup season up to date with her career’s very first top-3 finish.

The biggest winner of the season on the women’s side of things, however, was Germany’s Ramona Theresia Hofmeister, who wrapped up the season in spectacular fashion with her third consecutive parallel overall and parallel giant slalom crystal globes.

On Saturday, Hofmeister finished the competition in third place after winning the small final against Daniela Ulbing (AUT), and with her third top-3 finish in last eight days she was able to defend her top spot in the overall standing and claim her second title this week.

Hofmeister racked up one victory, as well as two runner-up and three third-place finishes for 6 podiums, wrapping up the season with 557 points. Zogg took second with 540 points, while  Ulbing rounded out the podium in third place with 508 points.

Switching over to men’s event it was Andreas Prommegger (AUT) and Edwin Coratti (ITA), who finished the competition in ex aequo first place after an extremely thrilling big final matchup.

While extremely rare, it wasn’t the first time that we saw a tie for the first place at the FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup tour. Back in 2020 Benjamin Karl (AUT) and Marco Felicatti (ITA) wrote history with their first ever tie for top spot in a parallel World Cup event and just a week ago in Piancavallo Zogg and Tsubaki repeated this extraordinary achievement with the first ever tie over in the women’s competition.

On Saturday Prommegger and Coratti worked their way through, while showing some exceptionally fast riding, as they finally met in the big final. There it was Prommegger who built up a solid advantage of nearly half a second in the upper part of the course, but Coratti was able to find the optimal line and catch the Austrian rider. The duo crossed the finish line with exactly the same time, meaning that Saturday’s competition would once again see not just one winner, but two.

After a somewhat slow start into 2021/22, Coratti capped the season with excellent results, scoring his second victory in three days on Saturday, with one more second place from last week’s Piancavallo completing his streak of three consecutive World Cup top-3 spots.

The victory for Prommegger, on the other hand, meant that with his superb final race the Austrian veteran claimed his career’s third crystal globe after jumping into top spot and winning the parallel slalom classification.

In the PSL ranking Prommegger collected 266 points in four competitions staged in 2021/22, with Sangho Lee (KOR) losing his top spot after Berchtesgaden’s event and finishing in second with 245 points. Arvid Auner (AUT) couldn’t quite join the battle for the PSL title in the final race in Germany and he finished the season in third place with 201 points.

Despite loosing the battle for PSL title to Prommegger in direct matchup in semi-finals, Lee finished the competition in third place after coming victorious against Lukas Mathies (AUT) in the small final.

Besides third place on the day, more importantly Lee claimed the biggest trophy that was up for  grabs in Berchtesgaden. With a phenomenal form throughout the entire season on both parallel slalom and parallel giant slalom tours, and two runner-up positions in the respective final rankings,  Lee capped off the best World Cup season of his entire career with his first World Cup title.

In the overall parallel World Cup standing Lee gathered a total of 604 points, with second Stefan Baumeister (GER) finishing the campaign with 506 points, and third Edwin Coratti rounding out the podium with 408 points.

The 2021/22 FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup season is set to conclude on Sunday in Berchtesgaden, with a parallel slalom mixed team event scheduled to go down at 11:00 CET.
