Montafon snowboard cross World Cup cancelled

Unfortunately, today it has been announced that the ski & snowboard cross FIS World Cup competitions in Montafon (AUT) have been canceled.
Silvretta Montafon, together with the organizing committee, had done everything possible in the past few days to hold the World Cup competitions for ski and snowboard cross skiers from 12 to 16 December. However, ongoing warm temperatures made snow production impossible for the race course.
Despite the completion of basic snowmaking and the opening of daily ski operation this week, it has not been possible to produce the large amount of snow required for the competition course in Montafon.
"The snow situation on the mountain was impressive at first glance. For skiing, the slopes are in good condition. But for the complex track construction we are missing the appropriate amounts of snow. Due to the forecasted temperatures next week, it is unfortunately not possible to build the course, "explains Rupert Steger , ÖSV Event Marketing.
The FIS and the ÖSV have therefore decided in consultation with the organizing team in Montafon to cancel the World Cup races for this season. As the ÖSV still wishes to hold the World Cup events originally slated for Montafon in Austria, all parties all parties are currently working together to see if an alternative Austrian venue can be found. An update on the situation is expected on Monday.
Despite the cancellation of the sports competitions, the supporting program in Montafon will take place on schedule. The highlight is the big open-air concert with WANDA and folkshilfe in Schruns.
With standard format and team format competitions as part of the original programme, the Montafon events was slated to be the first of eight total FIS snowboard cross World Cup season.
