Big Air Chur freeski finals cancelled due to weather complications

Unfortunately, the weather won on Friday, with overnight heavy winds and rain making it impossible to properly prepare the venue for a safe and fair competition. This forced the cancellation of freeski finals at the Big Air Chur FIS Freeski World Cup. However, at this time the concerts and shows scheduled in conjunction with the Big Air World Cup will take place as planned.
Organisers have also announced that any Big Air Chur Festival-goers with tickets for Friday who choose not to attend on Friday due to this cancellation can instead use their Friday tickets to attend the Festival and snowboard World Cup competition on Saturday at no extra charge.
The rain arrived overnight in Chur as forecasted, and it was that rain in conjunction with the damaging winds through the night and into the morning that rendered the venue unsafe for course workers and officials to make the preparations necessary for freeski big air finals to take place in a safe manner.
Fortunately, Big Air Chur freeski qualifications were completed successfully on Thursday, meaning that we have an official result for the competition, with Switzerland’s own Mathilde Gremaud taking the win for the women, and Canada’s Dylan Deschamps, competing in just his third career World Cup competition, earning his first career podium and the victory for the men.
Joining Gremaud on the women’s podium is two-time Chur winner Tess Ledeux of France, while Sarah Hoefflin gives Switzerland it’s second podium of the competition by taking third place.
For the men it’s Austria’s Daniel Bacher earning his first career podium by taking second place behind Deshcamps, while last year’s Chur winner Birk Ruud of Norway grabs his ninth-straight World Cup podium with a third-place finish.

Despite the cancellation of the World Cup competition, the concert portion of the Big Air Chur Festival is continuing on schedule, with easing rains through the afternoon allowing show-goers to continue on with a drier, if slightly muddy, good time in Chur.
