Gremaud wins Stubai Slopestyle World Cup season opener as winds force cancellation of men’s event
Nov 22, 2025·Freeski Park & PipeTwo-time Slopestyle World Champion Mathilde Gremaud (SUI) has begun her 2025/26 FIS Freeski Park & Pipe World Cup campaign with victory at the first Slopestyle World Cup of the season in Stubai (AUT).
Gremaud was declared the winner on Saturday after wind conditions forced the cancellation of the women’s finals, with standings instead based on qualifications from Thursday.
“It feels like half a win, for sure, but it still counts. We had really good qualifications, and it was a really good vibe,” Gremaud said.
The men’s competition was also cancelled on Saturday due to high winds, with no results recorded.
Men’s qualifications were originally scheduled to take place on Friday, but were postponed to Saturday morning due to windy conditions. Continuing high winds on Saturday ultimately forced organisers to cancel all competition.
Gremaud, the reigning Olympic champion, topped qualifications on Thursday with a first run score of 81.92.
Her winning run began with a right bio 900 leading tailgrab, switch left 720 mute, a switch right 270 to forward, a right slide on the up-rail to right 270 on the down rail, then a wallride, before finishing it off with a left 270 to forward on the last rail.
“I was not risking too much on the jumps. I just played the variety card with the grabs and the axis, and I tried to go all in on the rails,” she said.
“I’m happy that I could handle the beginning of the season.”
Canada’s Olivia Asselin was runner-up behind Gremaud with her first run score of 76.71.
Finnish skier Anni Karava rounded out the women’s top-three with a score of 68.07.
Only the top eight women from a field of 31 qualified for Saturday’s final, with several big names failing to progress to the next round.
Beijing 2022 Halfpipe and Big Air champion Eileen Gu (CHN) finished in 29th position in Thursday’s qualifications in what was her first World Cup in Stubai since 2020.
Before this week’s Slopestyle season opener in Stubai, Gu had competed in just two Slopestyle World Cup events since claiming silver behind Gremaud in Slopestyle at the Beijing 2022 Games. Gu won last year’s Laax Open and was runner-up at the 2024 edition.
PyeongChang 2018 Slopestyle champion Sarah Hoefflin (SUI) also missed out on a finals berth after finishing 12th in Thursday’s qualifications. The 34-year-old was third in Stubai in 2024 and more recently claimed silver in Big Air at the 2025 World Championships in March. Hoefflin was also previously runner-up in Stubai in 2021 and 2018.
Saturday marks the third consecutive year that weather conditions have affected the Slopestyle World Cup in Stubai. Both the 2023 and 2024 editions had their finals cancelled, with results based on qualifications.
The next Slopestyle World Cup will take place in Aspen (USA) on 7 January. The first three Slopestyle World Cup events of the season all serve as qualifying events for the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games in February.
