Kingsbury, Anthony on top of the podium in high-quality competition at Idre Fjäll
Dec 06, 2024·FreestyleMikael Kingsbury (CAN) has recorded a second consecutive World Cup victory topping the individual podium in Idre Fjäll, Sweden. On the women’s side, Jakara Anthony (AUS) went one better than last week as she beat Perrine Laffont (FRA) in the super final.
The Australian not only made an impressive return to the top of the podium, she also joined her French arch-rival on top of the World Cup leaderboard. Both now have 180 points.
In Idre, 2022 Olympic champion Anthony ripped down the course in 17.56 seconds and put up a total score of 82.94 points to take victory. With that, she finished 2,05 points clear of last week’s winner Perrine Laffont (FRA).
“It feels good to finish up in first place”, Anthony, who also landed on top of the podium in Idre last year, said. “I don’t think there was any more pressure than any other competition. I know what I’m trying to achieve every time. I’m competing against all those other girls, but I’m kind of just competing against myself in a way.”
Maia Schwinghammer (CAN) ended in third after having missed out on the podium in Ruka, where she finished fourth, last week. The Canadian was the first to compete in the super final and set the score to beat with 80.71 points.
Kingsbury shows strong skiing again
On men’s side, Kingsbury triumphed with 87.92 points in a high-quality super final, two points ahead of Ikuma Horishima (JPN), for his second win in a row. “I’m super happy to have my second one”, Kingsbury said. “I think I had tiny mistakes, but overall I did a very good double full and a good ten. I was very strong in my skiing today.”
Second place finisher Ikuma Horishima once again impressed with a super progressive run including a double full + 1440 combination on the jumps, being the only competitor to do so.
Home favorite Walter Wallberg (SWE) landed in third with an 85.63-point run in the super final, while Benjamin Cavet (FRA) just missed out on the podium with 85.62 points.
Kingsbury won’t have much time to celebrate with the Dual Moguls competition coming up on Saturday. “I’m excited for that one”, he said of the first Dual World Cup event of the year. “It’s my favorite”, he added.
The Canadian picked up two World Cup victories in Sweden last year and is looking to do the exact same this weekend. “I won here last year in duals, it was amazing. It’s a great course for duals and it’s going to be fast. I will have a good night of sleep and will be ready for tomorrow.”
The Moguls World Cup tour in Idre continues on Saturday, 7 December, with preliminary rounds for Dual Moguls starting from 10:15 CET. Finals will take place from 13:30.
