Brykina and Roth shine as Aerials Grand Prix lights up Mettmenstetten
Aug 18, 2025·FreestyleThe summer may be in full swing, but the aerials action was as intense as ever this past Sunday (17 August) as the Jumpin water ramp facility in Mettmenstetten, Switzerland, hosted the 28th edition of the FIS Freestyle Masters – the traditional opener of the Aerials Summer Grand Prix series.
While the summer Grand Prix carries a more relaxed vibe compared to the winter World Cup circuit, the level of competition was anything but casual. With many of the world’s best in attendance, the athletes used the event to push their limits, test new tricks, and thrill the large crowd gathered to celebrate one of Switzerland’s signature freestyle festivals.
In the women’s competition, it was Ukraine’s Anhelina Brykina who stole the show. Executing a flawless back Full-Full-Full in the super final, Brykina scored 120.63 points to take the top spot on the podium. Close behind was Laura Peel (AUS), whose bold Full double Full-Full earned her 120.06 points and underlined the rising degree of difficulty now becoming the standard in women’s aerials. Canada’s Marion Thenault rounded out the podium in third place with 117.19 points after her stylish Full-Full-Full.
On the men’s side, the competition was just as fierce, with the Swiss fans treated to a moment of history. Noé Roth (SUI), reigning World Champion, unveiled the first-ever double Full-double Full-double Full performed in competition. The groundbreaking jump earned him 142.44 points and brought the house down in Mettmenstetten.
Right on his heels was Ukraine’s Dmytro Kotovskyi, whose trademark Full-triple Full-Full (“the Hurricane”) scored 141.44 points for second place. Canada’s Lewis Irving claimed third with 137.70 points for his double Full-double Full-Full. To underline the depth of the field, Switzerland’s Pirmin Werner finished fourth with 135.20 points, while Ukraine’s Oleksandr Okipniuk was fifth with 129.95 points.
Beyond the headline Freestyle Masters competition, the day also featured a lively junior contest and a full program of family-friendly activities. For the young athletes, competing alongside their idols provided invaluable experience and inspiration, further strengthening the thriving aerials community in Mettmenstetten.
With the first stop of the Aerials Summer Grand Prix in the books, the stage is set for more spectacular performances in the weeks ahead, as the world’s best continue to raise the bar in the run-up to the Olympic season.
