It was a sweet day on the hills for the Swedes, as they swept the Moguls titles to open the FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships on 19 March.
Nova Nilsson (SWE) got things underway on the Ladebby Course in Airolo, Switzerland, scoring 70.94 points to be the only skier in the women’s field to break the 70-point threshold.
The 17-year-old claimed gold ahead of Abby Mclarnon (USA), who posted 69.73 points, while Mio Tani (JPN) was third with a 69.07-effort.
Teammate Elis Moberg then lived up to his billing as the top performer in both qualifications and Final 1 to finish top of the podium with a score of 79.47 points.

While Moberg was not the fastest down course, the 19-year-old was by far the top performer in the air and in turns, giving him an advantage of almost five points in the end.
He said: “It’s amazing to make these runs here in Airolo.
Skiers from the US completed the rest of the men’s Moguls podium, with Porter Huff (USA) in silver with 74.49, while Camden Lewis (USA) finished with bronze (74.11).
While Sweden have won the men’s gold at the FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships thrice before (2013, 2018, 2023), the team had yet to triumph in the women’s event until Nilsson.
The breakthrough was not lost on Nilsson, who has been chalking up podium positions on the European Cup circuit in the lead-up to the championships.
She said: “It feels super good, super surprised. I’ve been super nervous. So happy.”
For Mclarnon, her silver showing adds to the bronze she took in Dual Moguls at the last edition in Almaty, Kazakhstan, last year.
It is also notable that the depth and strength of the US women’s Moguls skiing team is evident in the junior squad, as it is in the senior ranks. Out of the six superfinalists, three were flying the US flag.
Still, with Sweden sweeping the individual titles, it bodes well for the team leading into the Dual Moguls Team event on 21 March.
Said Moberg: “We have high expectations. To have Nova taking first today (too)... the Swedish teams are going to be strong, for sure.”
Competition continues on 20 March with aerialists taking centre stage. All events will be streamed on the FIS Freestyle YouTube channel.
