Athletes & Storylines to Watch

Alpine Skiing Women's Super-G

Cortina’s women’s Super-G promises a compelling showdown, led by World Cup leader Sofia Goggia (ITA), who arrives with strong season form and a full Olympic downhill medal set already completed. New Zealand’s Alice Robinson, second in the standings, sees opportunity in both Super-G and GS as she builds momentum from recent performances. Newly crowned downhill champion Breezy Johnson (USA) tempers expectations but remains a podium contender despite lingering pressure. With Emma Aicher (GER) chasing a third medal and challengers like Romane Miradoli (FRA) and Kira Weidle-Winkelmann (GER) in form, the race shapes up as wide open.

I may be looking forward to the Super G a bit more than the GS. I've got two opportunities. I know I can do really well in both, so I'm just going to try and put as much energy into those days as I can. Alice Robinson (NZL) on her Games hopes

Freestyle Skiing Men's Moguls

Men’s moguls in Livigno sets up a potential piece of history as Mikael Kingsbury (CAN) targets a fourth straight Olympic medal in the same event, a potential first in freestyle skiing. The Canadian qualified third behind teammate Julien Viel and Japan’s Ikuma Horishima, who topped the qualifications. Defending champion Walter Wallberg (SWE) and Australia’s Matt Graham remain firmly in contention, promising a deep and competitive final. With progression pushing the limits of difficulty, the battle for gold is poised to be one of the discipline’s most explosive showdowns.

The goal was to go through to the next round. That's that goal (taken care of). Not my best skiing, but I'm in a good position. Once you do get to the next round, for me, I can improve on all my jumps and my time. So there's a lot to build on. Mikael Kingsbury (CAN)

Cross-Country Skiing Women's 10km Interval Start Free

The women’s Interval Start Free at Tesero sets up another high-stakes duel between Frida Karlsson (SWE) and Ebba Andersson (SWE) after their one-two finish in the Skiathlon. Karlsson, fresh off her first Olympic gold, and Andersson, still chasing her maiden Olympic title, continue a rivalry built on years of pushing each other to the limit. Sweden’s depth remains formidable, but challengers including Heidi Weng (NOR) and four-time Olympian Jessie Diggins (USA) will aim to disrupt the Scandinavian momentum.

When I see [world champion] Ebba winning gold, and know that sometimes I can beat her, I think it’s possible for me as well. And that’s something the whole team feels. Frida Karlsson (SWE)

Snowboard Men's Snowboard Cross

Men’s Snowboard Cross returns to the Olympic spotlight with Eliot Grondin (CAN) chasing redemption after missing gold by just 0.02 seconds at Beijing 2022. The Canadian arrives in Livigno with world championship gold and a Crystal Globe to his name, but defending Olympic champion Alessandro Haemmerle (AUT) will not make the task easy. Italy’s Omar Visintin adds home interest, while World Cup leader Adam Lambert (AUS) enters as a rising contender after a breakthrough season. With tight margins defining the discipline, another photo-finish battle could decide the podium.

Now I am coming here quite relaxed. I can focus on my riding and not about getting this medal again, because I already have it at home. Of course, I will try to repeat it and I think I have a good shot if everything aligns. Alessandro HAEMMERLE (AUT) on winning gold at Beijing 2022

Snowboard Women's Snowboard Halfpipe

The women’s Snowboard Halfpipe final in Livigno centers on Chloe Kim (USA), who topped qualification despite recently suffering a labrum tear, keeping her historic three-peat bid alive. No snowboarder has ever won three consecutive Olympic golds, and Kim now stands as the last athlete with that opportunity at Milano Cortina 2026. Rising challengers include Japan’s Sara Shimizu, and Korea’s World Cup leader Choi Gaon, ensuring the final will be fiercely contested.

I'm just happy to be here because for a little bit, a couple of months ago, it wasn't looking too certain. So, I'm stoked that I was able to make it out and make it through qualifiers. Chloe Kim (USA)
