Sustainable Event Solutions

Making Every Event Part of the Solution

World Cup events can leave a heavy footprint, drawing thousands of people into vulnerable mountain landscapes and requiring vast amounts of resources, including transport, energy, and temporary infrastructure, while producing substantial waste.

But this scale also presents a significant opportunity for change. In response, FIS is working to move beyond reducing impact to rethink how events are designed.

Food for White Winters

Developed in collaboration with the Stockholm Resilience Centre, the Food for White Winters diet is changing the way we think about food by identifying more sustainable, high-nutrition options for athletes and event attendees.

"Food for White Winters is a pilot, but it also has the potential to become a scalable model across the entire FIS ecosystem and beyond. By testing solutions directly with athletes, teams, and fans, we demonstrate that sustainable nutrition is not a niche experiment but a practical pathway for sports organizations worldwide.”Susanna Sieff, FIS Sustainability Director.

The initiative has brought together athletes, scientists, and chefs to rethink sports nutrition with a reduced environmental impact. The meals were tested during the FIS Alpine World Cup in Åre in March 2026. The next step is to inform future guidelines and scale the approach across FIS events and beyond.

Mountain Rideshare

FIS has partnered with Mountain Rideshare to pilot a carpooling platform for visitors at mountain resorts, helping reduce traffic and transport-related emissions. The trial launched across various Local Organizing Committees, with plans to scale the solution in the seasons ahead.
