Climate Change
A Shared Challenge, a Collective Response
The Paris Agreement set the target: net zero by 2050 at the latest.
The UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action Framework went further: net zero for sport by 2040, with a 50% reduction by 2030.
FIS stands with both, because a sport built on winter cannot afford to wait.
Sports for Climate Action
FIS is a proud signatory of the UNFCCC Sports for Climate Action Framework, reinforcing our commitment to measurable emissions reductions across all operations and events.
We measure what we emit, set clear targets, act where it matters most, and share our progress openly.
FIS CO₂ Calculator
You can't reduce what you don't measure.
That’s why we developed the FIS CO₂ Calculator, a free tool for National Ski Associations and Local Organizing Committees. Guided by the GHG Protocol, the calculator helps users quantify, manage, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions from snow sports events while reporting their results clearly.
The FIS CO₂ Calculator is award-winning, taking first place in the Inspired Innovation category at the Sport Positive Awards 2025.
What’s next: We are enhancing the tool with AI-powered insights, expanding how we track construction emissions, and giving National Ski Associations a clear, combined view of their total impact to scale change across the entire FIS ecosystem.
FIS Carbon Action Plan
Together with Deloitte, FIS developed the Carbon Action Plan (CAP), a focused roadmap that identifies the biggest opportunities to reduce emissions and translates them into practical, achievable actions. The goal is to bring our net emissions down to zero, playing our part in addressing climate change globally.
The CAP is closely aligned with the FIS IMPACT Programme. While the IMPACT Programme runs across three-year strategic cycles, the CAP takes a longer-term view. For now, both operate as separate yet connected plans, but by the end of the current IMPACT Programme cycle, they will come together as one fully aligned approach.
FIS is already delivering results. These include switching to renewable energy at headquarters, halving emissions by hosting every second FIS Congress online since 2021, transitioning 20% of our fleet to electric or hybrid vehicles, enabling remote judging in certain disciplines, and restructuring the Alpine racing calendar to reduce long-haul travel.

Supporting Rainforest Protection with Cool Earth
Reducing emissions is our priority, but we also take responsibility for emissions that cannot yet be eliminated.
For example, since 2021, FIS has supported Cool Earth, an organization that protects rainforests by working with Indigenous and local communities on the front lines of deforestation. These tropical rainforests absorb vast amounts of CO₂ and are home to over half of the world’s plant and animal species.
By supporting the people who have protected these forests for thousands of years, FIS contributes to both climate change mitigation and social justice.
