Sochi, the venue of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, is located on the shores of the Black See, next to the Caucasus mountains in Russia. With a population of about 300.000 inhabitants, it is Russias' largest resort town and the venue of numerous big sports events. In addition to the Olympics, Sochi will host the Russian Formula 1 Grand Prix and is also one of the host cities for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

The hills which were built specifilcally for the Winter Olympics are located in Sochi's winter sports centre in Krasnaya Polyana, about 50 kilometres from from the town. A ski stadium with the capacity of 9.600 people was built around the two competition hills, a HS140 large hill and a HS105 normal hill facility. The large hill was inaugurated with a "Cup of Russia" ski jumping competition in February of 2012. The Nordic Combined athletes had the opportunity to test the new Olympic venues during the Summer Grand Prix of 2012.

For the cross-country event, the 2,5 km track is located around the jumping hills with start and finish in the outrun of the hills. It will be the first time ever that this kind of set up is used in a major event.
