World champion Domen Prevc (SLO) continued his stunning start to the season with a dominant performance in Klingenthal (GER) which gave him a third successive World Cup victory.

Just hours after his sister Nika Prevc won the first event of the day at the Vogtland Arena, Domen backed up his Wisla double and extended his overall World Cup lead in the men’s Crystal Globe race.

The Slovenian landed jumps of 142.5m and 143m, which were significantly further than any of his opponents could rival and as such, he ultimately powered to victory by 25.5 points.

Prevc finished with a combined score of 298.5pts, with Stefan Kraft (AUT) marking his return to the sport, after time away to welcome his first child into the world, by finishing second (273pts). Host-nation favorite Philipp Raimund (GER) placed third (271.9pts).

World record holder Prevc, who set the landmark distance of 254.5m in Planica last season, is now 117 points ahead of team-mate Anze Lanisek (SLO) in the overall season standings.

“I really felt today was a day when I felt really great,” Prevc told FIS after the event.

“From Monday to Wednesday I was exhausted as in Slovenia we had the Sportsperson of the Year Awards and then when I came here on Thursday I was tied.

“Somehow, I really managed to build into the shape as I really like this hill. I felt great, performed great and it all combined for this result.”

Kraft admitted he "couldn't ask for anything better" than to attain a medal after missing two competitions following the birth of his child.

"Of course it's been tough at home and I haven't had miuch sleep, but I want to say a big thank you to my wife and family for making it possible for me to come here. I'm incredibly happy."

Third-placed Raimund admitted he had "so many problems" in training and during the competition adjusting to the hill, but was "very happy" to attain a top-three result for the home fans.

While low winds made for stable jumping conditions, the fog and mist which had been prevalent in the morning once again descended on the Vogtland Arena late into the afternoon.

It added an element of intrigue to what already promised to be a fascinating contest based on a host of suprise results recorded during Friday’s Qualifying round and Saturday’s Trial Run.

Johann Andre Forfang (NOR) has endured a challenging start to the season and looked set to make a significant improvement, based on a rank of second following the early action on Saturday, but when it came to the main event, he again struggled.

Reigning Crystal Globe champion Daniel Tschofenig (AUT) and Anze Lanisek (SLO), who held the yellow jersey just over two week ago, also struggled, eventually placing 13th and 16th respectively.

Those results were far from disastrous in the context of what host nation favourites Andreas Wellinger (GER) and Pius Paschke (GER) had hoped to achieve. Both have been regular podium contenders in recent seasons, but failed to progress past the opening round.

At the other end of the field though, Philipp Raimund, who had already placed third on the podium twice this season, looked well-placed for further success, in second behind Prevc.

Austrians Jan Hoerl and the returning Stefan Kraft, also possessed medal-winning potential.

Kacper Tomasiak (POL), Kristoffer Sundal (NOR) and Valentin Foubert (FRA) held positions five, six and seven at the halfway stage and were one good jump away from a possible third, or even better.

The second round though generated further surprises, as Japanese duo Ren Nikaido and Ryoyu Kobayashi climbed seven and five places respectively to place fourth and fifth, with Hoerl slipping to sixth.

Kraft came first and 11th in his last two outings in Falun (SWE) three weeks ago, but marked his comeback with a strong second jump of 133.5m which temporarily put him top.

Raimund was unable to better the Austrian’s score, but was able to give the home fans something to cheer with third, before Prevc delivered a fitting finale for what was another dominant victory for the Slovenian.
