The 2025-26 Visa FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup circuit ended with a bang as the athletes joined up for a mixed team parallel slalom race in Winterberg, Germany. It was a thrilling day of action as the stars showed out and nations battled for the final podium of the season.

In the end, it was a familiar matchup in the big final as Italy went up against Austria, the two biggest nations in the sport. Italy 2 was made up of Lucia Dalmasso (ITA) and Aaron March (ITA), who went up against the veteran pair of Austria 1, composed of Sabine Payer (AUT) and Andreas Prommegger (AUT).

It was Italy 2 who took an early lead and never looked back in the big final as Dalmasso and March took the victory. The win gives them the team crystal globe as well, as they came into the day with a 68-point lead in the team standings.

Dalmasso dominated the weekend with a win in the women’s race and now the team event, cruising past Payer to clinch the win in the big final for Italy on Sunday. Her pairing with March was also very successful this season.

“It is always good. I like riding with him in the team events. I am really happy and want to stay racing with him,”Dalmasso said.

Dalmasso ended the season with two globes after claiming the individual PSL globe on Saturday. Something that even surprised her.

“I did not expect it, definitely not. Not at all. I am happy. This is the best season I ever had, ”Dalmasso said.

The two won the first PSL team race this season in Bad Gastein. They placed second in Simonhohe earlier this year as well.

“It is great. We had strong races this year. Lucia was great in the singles, me too, but especially in the team event. Today, she was making the race, I was just a statistic,”March said.

Following behind the mighty Italy 2 team was Austria 1, who took second on Sunday. The pair of Payer and Prommegger were strong all day, moving through the bracket. The pair also won the second team race this season in Simonhohe.

“I can always trust in Sabine’s performance. It was good that I was able to also put in a good performance, and we won second place,”Prommegger said.

They finished the final team standings in second to go along with their silver-medal from Winterberg on Sunday.

“I was racing against Lucia like yesterday. Andy (Prommegger) gave me a bit of an advantage, but I couldn’t use it that well. I tried my best, but sometimes mistakes happen, and we are very happy to be in second place today, Payer said.

Payer’s podium goes well with her second-place in the individual race one day ago.

“It is a great ending to this season. It was not an easy one. It was a very long one, a tough one. I am really happy with the outcome. We can finish the season with a smile,”Payer said.

Rounding out the podium on Sunday was Canada 1 with Arnaud Gaudet and Aurelie Moisan (CAN) who won the small final. The pair only raced together once before this season in Bad Gastein, where they finished 15th. This was the first-ever mixed team podium for Canada.

“You have to have full trust in your teammate, and we have that. We are good friends also, so it is kind of easy,”Gaudet said.

It was also the first World Cup podium for Moisan.

“I can’t believe it to be honest. I dreamed of it all season. I knew it was reachable, but I always made little mistakes. So finally to have it happen in the team with Arnaud, is amazing. I am so proud of our riding,”Moisan said.

Losing out on the podium by one spot was Switzerland 2 with Gian Casanova and Flurina Neva Baetschi (SUI). The pair had a strong day. They also finished fifth in the team race in Bad Gastien this season.

There was drama in the earlier rounds as well.

The winning duo of Dalmasso and March were almost eliminated in the quarterfinals in a battle with Germany 1. The German pair of Ole-Mikkel Prantl (GER) and Ramona Theresia Hofmeister (GER) had a large lead after the men’s leg following March’s mistake around a gate. Hofmeister then caught an edge and was turned around, allowing for Dalmasso to make up the gap and win the race.

Elsewhere, Sabine Payer’s husband Alexander Payer (AUT) teamed up with Claudia Riegler (AUT) to finish fifth.

Triple-globe winner Maurizio Bormolini (ITA) teamed up with Elisa Caffont (ITA), and the pair ended the day in 11th.

It was also the final career race for legend Julie Zogg (SUI). Zogg teamed up with Dario Caviezel (SUI). The two were eliminated in the first knockout round for a tenth place finish.

Italy wins Nations Cup

In no surprise Italy took home the season’s Nations Cup title as the best performing country during the snowboard Alpine season.

Italy dominated the year, especially on the men’s side. The Italian men won 10 of 17 races this season. The women also added six wins.

Team Italy won five of seven crystal globes this season.

Austria followed in second in the Nations Cup, followed by Switzerland.

That wraps another wonderful season of snowboard racing. Next season will bring more drama and the high-intensity of the world championships. Best of luck to all of the athletes as they enjoy their offseason.

Aside from the World Cup, the junior world championships will be March 27-29 in Folgaria, Italy for more snowboard Alpine racing action.
