The FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup is set to welcome a new venue to the calendar next winter, with Ratschings/Racines in South Tyrol, Italy, making its World Cup debut on 30 January 2027 with a Parallel Slalom (PSL) event.
FIS representatives recently visited the Italian resort for a venue inspection, confirming plans for what promises to be an exciting addition to the tour. Nestled in the heart of the Wipptal valley near the historic town of Sterzing/Vipiteno, Ratschings is known for its snow-sure, north-facing slopes and long tradition of hosting alpine competitions. The ski area offers nearly 30 kilometres of pistes and has established itself as one of South Tyrol's premier winter destinations.
The new stop will strengthen Italy's presence on the World Cup calendar, joining Carezza and Cortina d'Ampezzo to give the country three Snowboard Alpine World Cup events during the 2026/27 season.
Although the World Cup will arrive in Ratschings for the first time, the resort is no stranger to international competition. It has been a regular host of FIS European Cup events since 2008, building extensive organisational experience over nearly two decades.
Following the inspection, FIS Snowboard Alpine Race Director Uwe Beier expressed his confidence in the venue's readiness to step onto the sport's biggest stage.
"The organiser has successfully hosted European Cup events for many years, so there is already a great deal of experience within the organising committee and the resort. You can really feel the motivation throughout the entire valley. Everyone—from the organisers and hotels to the local community—shares the ambition not only to host a World Cup, but to make it an outstanding one."
Beier also highlighted the long-term commitment shown by the organisers, who are planning to remain part of the World Cup calendar for years to come.
"They want to stay on the tour and are already planning a multi-year agreement. That gives us confidence that this can become a long-term stop on the circuit, and we're looking forward to welcoming athletes to Ratschings for its first World Cup next winter."
With a proven track record at European Cup level, strong local support and a spectacular Alpine setting, Ratschings/Racines is well positioned to become one of the newest highlights on the FIS Snowboard Alpine World Cup tour when it welcomes the world's best riders on 30 January 2027.
