Mammoth Mtn slopestyle cancelled, halfpipe competition hopeful for Saturday

Heavy winds and blowing snow forced the cancellation of World Cup slopestyle competition at the Mammoth Mountain Toyota U.S. Grand Prix on Friday. Unfortunately, with a full day of freeski slopestyle action slated for Saturday and the biggest winter storm of the year set to hit Mammoth on Sunday, rescheduling the snowboard slopestyle programme for this weekend was not possible, and the event will not be made up later in the season.

While the storms battering Mammoth are welcome for a resort that was battling some low snow levels after a record-setting snowfall season in 2022/23, the effect on this week’s competitions has been significant, with schedule reshuffling a daily occurrence, and no competition phases completed since Tuesday.

However, on Tuesday we were able to complete snowboard halfpipe qualifications, and finals for that competition are scheduled for Saturday morning in Mammoth with the first rider set to drop in at 9:30 PST.

Athletes, officials and organisers are keeping their fingers crossed for some better weather on Saturday and the opportunity to finish the week on a high at Mammoth Mountain.
