This weekend is a big one in the world of freeski and snowboard park & pipe, as the world’s newest and most modern halfpipe is set to open on Saturday, 24 March 2024 at Switzerland’s Corvatsch 3303 resort.

There is no doubt that the Corvatsch halfpipe is set to be the venue of many, many thrilling competitions for a long time to come, with the biggest of those that are already scheduled being the St. Moritz-Engadin 2025 FIS Freestyle, Snowboard and Freeski World Championships next season, running from 17-30 March, 2025.

However, we won’t have to wait that long to witness halfpipe contest action in Corvatsch, as the fresh venue will see it’s first competition repetitions when the Europa Cup visits the resort from 8-9 April of this season.

The Corvatsch halfpipe also promises to serve as an elite training grounds for national teams from around the globe. On top of that, and perhaps most importantly, the Corvatsch halfpipe will be open to the public more often than not, providing a facility for the next generations of pipe riders to cut their teeth and learn the ropes in what is arguably the most exciting discipline in snow sports.

The new Corvatsch halfpipe sits directly underneath the Murtèl middle station at 2,700m, and measures 170m long with a transit of 22m and walls 6.8m high. Work in Corvatsch began in September 2022, with Eco Alpin SA in charge of the construction. At the time of writing Kobi Würsch, head of the Corvatsch freestyle area, and Carlo Rusterholz from Rusti Design GmbH, are putting the finishing touches on the pipe in preparation for its grand opening this weekend.

On Saturday halfpipe riders from the past, the present and future of the sport - including 2023/24 freeski halfpipe World Cup crystal globe winner Alex Ferreria (USA) - will gather at Corvatsch for the official inauguration of this latest prestige project of Corvatsch AG. There, facts and numbers as well as taken measures for the environment will be shared, and we will witness the first riders will dropping in for the very first time on a halfpipe which we expect will quickly take its place amongst the very best on earth. Spectators are very much welcome.
